She has now finished her second and is ready to launch ‘Jewels Along the Newell’ this month.
The book documents the funny, tragic and inspiring stories of the people along the Newell over the past 100 years.
The official launch will be held at the Parkes Town Bowling Club in Cecile Street (not in Hooley Street as indicated on the invitation) on Saturday, September 27 at 2.30pm.
The book tells the ‘extraordinary stories of some of the interesting folk who living along one of Australia’s most iconic highways.’
Everyone is invited to attend.
Margaret is thrilled with her latest book and is already planning a third!
“In the 60 years I have lived in the district, I realised there were local people who have achieved great success in their chosen field, and I recognised the tremendous talent within the Parkes Shire along the Newell,” she said yesterday.
“There are also people with interesting stories and some characters who are just too hard to forget.
“With this in mind, the idea for a series of short stories came to me and I embarked on the rather daunting task of seeking out and telling some of these stories here.
“I have tried to capture the spirit of the people on this stretch of the Newell who share the ups and downs of country life with faith, and then who recognise, and rejoice, in the good times, and give thanks.
“I pray I have done them justice.”
Some 30 different families are featured in the 200 page book which also includes some photos.
As well, local sporting groups and personalities are included.
