“The Dragon Boaters are a very friendly group,” Bill Thomas of Parkes, the chairman of the Forbes Dragon Boating Club said.
“We love the camaraderie and the social aspect of the club, as much as we enjoy the fitness that paddling brings.”
“If I can do it,” says Bill’s wife, Beth, “I think anyone could. Come and try it for yourself.”
Dragon Boating takes place every Sunday morning from 10 to 11am, changing to 8:30am later in the season when the weather heats up.
After daylight savings commences, there will also be a Thursday 6pm session.
“You are not obligated to attend every time. Come when you can,” Bill said.
“You can take it up just for fun – or if you want to get more serious there are always regattas to enter against other towns and cities.
“We even had invites to China this year!”
The Dragon Boaters meet at Lake Forbes, behind the Sport and Recreation Club in Lachlan Street.
The club has members from Forbes, Parkes, and surrounding districts and new members are always welcome.
For $5 you can have a try, paddles provided, and see if you like it.
After three tries, you decide if you want to become a member.
“Come along and give it a go. You just might love it!” Bill said.
