Two outsiders fought out the finish that eventually saw Paul Massurit playing off a 15 handicap etch his name into history in winning the title from Denis Howard.
The distinction of being first eliminated went to Mike Woods after he lost a chip off with Peter Magill and Sam Turner.
Pre-event favourite John Green was next to go after a 7 on the par five second hole.
On the remaining seven holes on the front nine, a further four chip offs determined the fate of Troy Hopley, Ryan Thornberry, Michael Mitchelsen and Sam Turner thus joining Vince Kelly, Paul Morgan and Wayne Parker on the sidelines.
As the players entered the final nine holes, it appeared as though defending titleholder Allan Jewell was the player to beat with Paul Massurit, Brien McPhee and Col Barker all playing conservative golf.
Once again a chip off was to determine the fate as Laurie Wakefield departed after a nine way contest.
Drama occurred as both Wakefield and Denis Howard failed to make the green with their first chips.
In the subsequent chip off Wakefield again failed to make the green.
Dave Stevenson was next to depart as he four putted the 11th green for a double bogey five.
He was closely followed by Robert Cheney on the 12th.
On the par five 13th, further drama occurred as Brien McPhee was penalised after his caddy marked and picked up his golf ball on the 13th hole.
Despite this, McPhee survived as Colin Barker departed after a double bogey.
Peter Magill was next to receive his marching orders after a double bogey six on the 14th hole.
Brian McPhee will have nightmares after his tee shot on the tough par three 15th hole that eventually saw him become a spectator.
As the players headed to the par five 16th hole, it remained a battle between Allan Jewell, Wayne Powter, Denis Howard and Paul Massurit.
Massurit birdied the hole, leaving the remaining three forced into a chip off that saw Powter join the onlookers.
On the long par four 17th hole, the prediction that Jewell would get caught in the trees on the corner were proven.
Despite this, he still managed to force a chip off with Denis Howard which he lost.
The battle was down to two with Denis Howard and Paul Massurit vying for the winners position.
After playing the hole, Howard managed a five nett five, while Massurit with a shot up his sleeve three putted for a six for a nett five.
This forced a 40 metre chip off and for the second time, Howard once again failed to make the green and watched as Massurit calmly landed on the green.
Both Massurit and Howard praised the sponsor Paul Rouse of Pybar Mining for his support of the event as the players enjoyed a delightful BBQ compliments of the sponsor.
