While the course could certainly do with a decent drop and with the scheduled 20 millimetres of rain ready to descend on Parkes from about 11am many golfers stayed at home.
However, the lucky golfers who decided to play certainly enjoyed the conditions as the rain failed to materialise.
Leading home the small field was a lucky John Pearce who survived golf’s countback system to take the major honours from an unlucky James Ward after both players recorded great scores of 43 points.
Club Captain Paul Thomas, in announcing the event’s winners, thanked Tony and Mandy Byrne of Byrnes Clothing Company for their wonderful support and sponsorship that is in excess of 10 years.
Ball winners from the day’s competition were 43 James Ward, 42 Sam Turner, 38 Len Archer, 37 Andrew Pigram and Ian Ward and surviving the countback on 36 points was Glen Buesnell.
In the nearest the pins, local Mayor Ken Keith took out the Idlerite Tyrepower sponsored 1st hole at 815cm.
Robert Hey birdied the Griffins Leading Edge 4th hole from just 74cm after a superb 8-iron while Blake Parker snared the Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th hole after a superb 7-iron finished 233cm from the pin.
On the Harvey Norman 11th hole, Phil Bishop missed a birdie chance when his putt lipped the hole after he finished 231cm away.
On the final par three, the difficult Westlime sponsored 15th hole, Paul Harris managed an easy par after a solid 3-iron finished 441cm from the pin.
On the best-in-two-shot final holes of each nine, Sam Turner won on the Parkes Ready Mixed Concrete 9th hole when he hit a glorious wedge to just 190cm of the pin.
On the Parkes Heavy Mechanical Repairs 18th hole, Dave Stevenson survived all challengers when he fired his wedge to just 143cm in recording a birdie as both players claimed two balls each.
