The reading of 0.325 is one of the highest recorded in Parkes in recent years.

Police were called to Best Street at 7pm Sunday in relation to a driving complaint from a local resident.

After patrolling the area, police located a white Holden Rodeo parked in the middle of Best Street.

According to police the woman started the car as they approached. 

Despite officers standing in front of the vehicle and others tapping on the side window, she proceeded to slowly drive away.

The vehicle continued into Carinya Street and collided with a kerb.

In her attempt to accelerate, the vehicle’s tyres lost traction resulting in a `burnt-out’ occurring.

Fearing property damage and injury to the driver, police were forced to smash the passenger side window before then applying the handbrake.

The woman failed her breath test, was arrested and taken to Parkes Police Station.

A subsequent breath analysis produced the high range reading of 0.325.

The woman’s licence was immediately suspended and she was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice to appear in Parkes Local Court on Monday, September 15.

Parkes police are investigating the theft of 31 head of cattle valued at more than $16,000 from a Cookamidgera property.

The owner informed police on Monday of being notified that the gates to his Cookahills Road property were open.

On arrival one cow was discovered wandering on the road and another five inside the paddock

This left 31 of the Hereford Cross Angus cattle unaccounted for.

In reporting the incident to police, the owner was adamant he had left the gates locked after moving the cattle onto the paddock last Sunday.

Due to physical evidence discovered at the scene police believe the cattle have been stolen.

As a result they are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist with their enquiries to contact them on 6862 9999.
