Playing under the leadership of captain / coach David Greenhalgh, Eugowra defeated Tottenham 17-16 to take out the Group 11 second division premiership in 1974.
From newspaper reports of the day Eugowra were trailing 4-16 and playing into a stiff breeze, Eugowra’s premiership hopes appeared bleak with 20 minutes of play remaining. But in a spirited final rally, in which all players rose grandly to the occasion, Eugowra piled on three tries, two of which were converted, in the space of 14 minutes to snatch a shock win.
Club president of the day, Const Don Craft, revealed that Eugowra’s first grade side had not lost a rugby league grand final in Group 11 since the war.
“We may have been beaten in semis and in finals, but never in a big one,” said Const Craft.
Organiser of last weekend’s reunion, Colin Greenhalgh, said that it was a very successful reunion and everyone enjoyed all the activities which were arranged.
Friday night was a ‘meet and greet’ event at the Central Hotel, while on Saturday John Greenhalgh transported 20 odd interested persons to Moxey’s Dairy.
Here they were given a guided tour by Peter Phillipzen which was very well received by everyone.
The next stop was to the Gooloogong Hotel for lunch where they were well looked after by Ron Hay.
The main event of the weekend was the dinner on Saturday evening where the MC’s duties were very capably carried out by the former president Don Craft. He interviewed each and every player which was very popular and went down very well.
Former players who now reside at Forster, the Gold Coast, Adelong and the Forbes / Parkes area were in attendance, with David Faul, Larry Wright and Clive Stibbard being unable to attend.
The reunion came to a conclusion on Sunday with the remaining visitors and locals attending the Eugowra / Grenfell game at the Eugowra Oval.
