Would you rather spend over $700,000 on a small two bedroom apartment?
Or $300,000 on a four bedroom house and garden?
Would you rather have to choose work or family?
Or have a career and a family?
These are the type of questions Parkes Shire Council will be challenging people to think about at this year’s CountryNSW Expo at the Sydney Show Ground at Sydney Olympic Park this weekend (tomorrow and Sunday).
Supported by NSW Trade and Investment, this annual event which last year attracted nearly 9000 visitors, it allows Sydneysiders to walk NSW in a day - experiencing the tastes, sounds and tempting offers from country and regional businesses, communities and organisations represented at the Expo.
Towns and cities in country and regional NSW, like Parkes Shire, provide boundless opportunities for investment in many areas including manufacturing and trade, property development, tourism and hospitality, construction and engineering and other major investments.
This prosperity provides that attraction for those contemplating the move from the city to the country.
Parkes Shire will be represented by the Economic and Business Development Manager, Anna Wyllie, and Tourism Trainee, Elise Spedding who will be equipped with all of the key information to attract new residents and businesses to the region.
The Parkes Champion Post and ‘I’d Rather Be In Parkes’ supplement (inside today’s edition) will provide additional information to people who are considering moving from Sydney to Parkes including information about available jobs and real estate, community service, schools and medical facilities.
This year, Council with the support of many wonderful local businesses will be offering a weekend in the Parkes Shire - suggested to coincide with the Trundle Bush Tucker Day in September.
The prize is valued at over $750 and includes two nights accommodation for two at the Aastro Dish Hotel in Parkes, an additional night at Hotel Gracelands, vouchers to dine at the Dish Café, Trundle Hotel and IKON restaurant.
The winners will also enjoy tickets to the Trundle Bush Tucker Day, a souvenir gift pack and entry into a 3D movie from the Visitor Discovery Centre located at the CSIRO Radio telescope and entry into the Museums at the Henry Parkes Centre as well as a gift pack compliments of the Parkes Visitor Centre.
“The CountryNSW Expo gives Council the opportunity to go to Sydney and promote why we live, work, play and investing in our wonderful Shire,” Anna Wyllie, Economic and Business Development Manager said yesterday.
“Parkes has a strong diverse economy with a Gross Regional Product of over a billion dollars a year, it has great schools, and access to medical care, especially with the new $72.5 million hospital about to be built, affordable housing, and a booming rental market.
“We are also fortunate to have fast access to Sydney with Regional Express (REX) providing three flights to Sydney a day during the week, and weekend services,” Anna said.
“These are aspects of our way of life that we should readily share.
“We are hoping to entice more city residents to join the many others who have made the tree-change.
“We want to challenge people to think about how they live their lives and come to the conclusion that they would rather be in Parkes.”
