They competed in the half-marathon (21km) event.
This is a major highlight on Queensland’s event calendar, attracting people from more than 30 countries and showcasing the Gold Coast as a premier sporting event destination.
Michael is a student at Parkes High School.
Although he runs regularly for fitness, he has just started participating in local fun runs.
The Gold Coast race was the first time he had run any further than 8km.
He put in an amazing effort, maintaining a quick pace and achieved a great time which placed him 1958 out of 8725 total finishers (1413 out of 3891 male finishers).
Sonia also achieved a personal best in her third half-marathon and was placed 2180 out of 8725 total finishers (636 out of 4636 women finishers).
They both really enjoyed the race, the warmer weather and said the scenery was spectacular. Both Michael and Sonia are looking forward to competing in next year’s event.
