Local State Member for Dubbo Troy Grant said traffic surveys are being carried out jointly by Roads and Maritime Services and Parkes Shire Council in Parkes during the next fortnight, weather permitting, using fixed cameras and other methods including road surface counters.
“Traffic is being monitored in various directions through Parkes to inform potential improvements to intersections and predict future traffic needs for the town.
“The use of this technology allows us to work out what size vehicle is travelling along a route and where it is going.
“Fixed cameras are in place at strategic locations including Henry Parkes Way and the Newell Highway to measure traffic movements and calculate possible travel time savings.
“Road surface counters are also in place and are activated with pressure from a vehicle’s tyre which provides information on the size of the vehicle.
“No unique identifiers will be collected as part of the monitoring.”
Mr Grant said the community will be kept informed of the traffic study results and how they will inform future work including the proposed western ring road of Parkes.
