The volunteer group will stage their third tractor trek on September 18 and are currently seeking sponsorship.
Mr Les Finn (Director Technology and Corporate Services) said the purpose of Camp Quality was to create a better life for every child living with cancer.
“It doesn’t matter where they live or where each child is at with their cancer journey, Camp Quality is there to support them,” Mr Finn said.
“At last count, 42 families and 82 children in the Central West are being cared for by Camp Quality.
“Of these, nine families and 19 children live in Parkes and the surrounding areas.”
Mr Finn said council had not supported Camp Quality for a number of years.
Cr Barbara Newton said the statistics for Parkes were particularly significant and she would happily support the request.
Cr Kenny McGrath and Cr Michael Greenwood agreed.
This year’s Tractor Trek will depart Orange on Thursday, September 18, and travel through Cudal, Murga, Forbes, Eugowra, Gooloogong and Canowindra before finishing up at Borenore.
Organisers hope to raise $170,000 this year which if realised would be enough money to support all Camp Quality families in the Central West for the next 12-months
Parkes man Geoff Rawson has entered two tractors in this year’s Trek.
It costs Camp Quality $4,000 to support one family with a child suffering cancer each year.
This includes $1,000 to send a child to a recreational camp.
At the most recent Parkes Shire Council meeting, Councillors unanimously agreed to support the Trek by purchasing a ‘bronze’ sposorship package for $500.
