Cancer Council NSW is holding a free online webinar this month to help cancer survivors manage the challenges of recurrence.
Viewers will hear from a cancer survivor and an expert panel working in the field of cancer recurrence as they provide support, coping strategies and interaction.
The panel will discuss the fear and associated anxiety of cancer coming back in the same place or another part of the body, often experienced by young adult cancer survivors.
Cancer Council NSW is encouraging cancer survivors, their carers, family and friends, as well as health professionals working with cancer patients and people working in the cancer field to view the live event.
Camilla Barlow, Community Programs Coordinator at Cancer Council NSW’s western region office expressed the importance for cancer survivors to have a support network.
“One of the most prevalent un-met needs in cancer survivors is for help with the fear and anxiety they experience about their cancer returning.
“We hope this webinar will help by providing survivors with a private space to get help and tactics.”
Jill Mills, Cancer Council NSW, Survivor Support Unit, will facilitate the discussion. The panel will include:
• Kim Hobbs a Clinical Specialist Social Worker at Westmead Hospital.
• Ursula Sansom-Daly a Clinical Psychologist (Registrar) at the Sydney Youth Cancer Service, Sydney Children’s and Prince of Wales Hospitals.
• A cancer survivor who will talk about their own experiences.
The webinar “What if my cancer comes back?” will stream live on Thursday (May 29) at 7pm. The webinar will also be available online after the event.
