Margaret was nominated by both her neighbours!
Some 13 nominations were received by the Parkes Rotary Club for the annual awards, now in their third year.
Each of the nominees was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation at a luncheon at the Parkes Neighbourhood Centre last week.
The awards are designed to recognise the ‘behind the scenes’ people who do little things for their neighbours, never seeking recognition but to help out.
Margaret was nominated by Terry Hetherington (on one side) and Mick and Jeanette Holland (the other).
“She is always supportive in checking on and caring for her elderly neigbbours, often bringing food or walking the dogs,” Mr Hetherington said.
‘We are elderly and Margaret checks regularly that we are OK,” the Hollands said.
“She will do anything to help us, has even mowed our lawn on some occasions. Nothing is ever inconvenient or too much trouble.
“She is amazing with animals, including ours, and along with her own four little dogs, takes our Collie for a walk every day.
“Margaret is a wonderful neighbour in every way, but we are especially grateful for her help with Lucy (a stray dog which has been with them for a few years).
“It is also reassuring that she will be added to Margaret’s family should anything happen to us.”
The other nominations were Ruth Simpson, Keith Woodlands, Derrick Milling, Parkes SES, Robert Cannon, Barbara Rawson, Aaron Kelly, Del and Kath Baxter, Michael and Daphne Bennett, and Roger Hood.
