Today they take on Dubbo Macquarie and Daily Liberal sports editor Ben Walker will keep you up to date with all the action.
3:07pm - Well the lower grade matches have been completed and Westside have their first win as a new entity, claiming a 26-12 win in reserve grade. Earlier Macquarie won the under-18s 36-6. First grade not far from starting.
3.20pm - Stirring rendition of The Last Post as the big crowd at Apex Oval goes silent. Tom Gray leads the Anzac Day service. Teams now meet in the middle and it's almost time for kick-off.
4th min - Dubbo Macquarie strike first through new recruit Dylan Hill. Jeremy Smith converts from in front and it's 6-0 to the Raiders.
8th min - Westside get a penalty and field position but give it up by giving away a penalty while in possession. Macquarie can't capitalise though as they throw a forward pass.
14th min - Sloppy start from both sides. Plenty of mistakes. You can tell it's the first game of the year.
17th min - After 17 minutes Westside's prized recruit David Peachey is on the field. Look for the former NRL star to spark the Rabbitohs.
22nd min - Chance here from Macquarie, five tackles and 30m out......and they throw another forward pass. Captain-coach John Grey won't be happy at half-time.
25th min - Weight of possession and territory tells. Macquarie hold on to the ball and Ash Conn barges over. The props are both on the board for 2014 with tries. Smith misses the kick and it's 10-0 Macquarie.
32nd min - Brody Chapman busts through some soft defence off a tap kick and scores for Macquarie. Jeremy Smith misses again though and it's 14-0 to the Raiders. Big crowd here at Apex Oval. Public holiday footy looks to be a winner.
34th min - Macquarie make a mistake shortly after the kick off and Westside have a chance here., which they muck up. If they can hold the ball and cut out a couple of simple missed tackles, they're not going to go too bad.
37th min - Mason Williams receives a loose Zac Rennick offload and thrives in the broken play situation, finding a gap to score near the posts. Smith's had enough of the kicking and tells Williams to convert his own try, which he duly does. It's 20-0 to Macquarie.
38th min - Gate takings today announced as $6300. Massive for a home and away fixture. Group 11 might be on to something with Anzac Day football.
40th min - As both sides make errors in the lead-up to half-time it would be remiss of us not to mention the great Noel Sing, a legend at both these clubs, who was inducted into the Westside life members club prior to today's match. Siren goes, and it's 20-0 to Macquarie at half-time.
42nd min - Two minutes into the second stanza and Jeremy Smith swoops on a loose ball and races 60m to extend Macquarie's lead. Williams converts from in front and it's 26-0 to Macquarie.
47th min - Comedy of errors as Raiders centre Lasaro Turagadrall makes a break, looks set to score, eases up and gets caught short of the line. With Westside almost conceding he gets up and plays the ball to Grey, who passes to Williams and he jogs over for his second try. He also converts and it's 32-0 and could start getting ugly soon.
50th min - History is made as Westside score their first try back in Group 11. EJ Fernando scores it and the score is now 32-4 to Macquarie.
59th min - Credit to Westside, who score again through Justin Shillingsworth and the board now reads 32-10 in favour of Macquarie.
66th min - Chris Daley take a bow. Westside made a break and looked certain to score. Daley kept chasing and forced the error. If that was scored things could have got interesting.
69th min - Westside in again, this time through Rob Burns. The conversion is good and it's 32-16.
76th min - Mason Williams caps off a good game, taking an intercept and running 65m to score. The chase was lacklustre, the referee was the closest to him and he was 30m away when the ball was put down. Williams kicks the goal and the score is 38-16 and his personal tally is 20.
80th minute - The sides are shaking hands just seconds out from the siren and Macquarie have won the opening match of the 2014 Group 11 season. The score was 38-16 but to Westside's credit they were very gallant. For all the post-match reaction catch tomorrow's Liberal. Nick Guthrie is in the sheds talking to the coaches as we speak.
