CDAT President, Melanie Suitor, said that despite the rainy weather earlier in the week, it was fine and sunny for the pool party movie night.
“Unfortunately a number of events had been cancelled earlier in the week due to the rain and we were concerned that the pool party may also have to cancelled,” she said.
“We had arranged plan B - screening the movie in the Coventry Room at the Library.
“Luckily the clouds cleared and we had more than 50 people come through the admission gates.
“There was music by DJ Jabba, a free BBQ, the pool inflatable, games, an Easter egg guessing competition and great prizes - including an ipad mini, ipod shuffle, gift vouchers and lolly bags,” Melanie said.
“Council also premiered its new custom-built photo booth.
“Participants certainly got into the spirit of the photo booth, using all the props and getting a keep sake of a great night out with their mates.
“All of the photos have been uploaded to Parkes Shire Council's Youth Week facebook page - so make sure you check them out!
“After the sun went down, for the first time ever at Parkes Pool, we screened Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” Melanie revealed.
“We have donated the DVD to the Parkes Library, so now other residents can enjoy this family movie.
“Thanks also to the Car Club for their support of the event and running a canteen - complete with pop-corn.
“Organisers are pleased with how well attended this event was.
“The feedback from the local teens was all positive - so much so, they would like us to run another one when the pool reopens later this year.”
Ms Suitor said the pool party movie night is the first in a series of Youth Activity Nights that will be held in Parkes over the next 12 months.
“The aim of our Youth Activity Nights is to provide a safe drug/alcohol free alternative for local youth, supply a free hot meal, and present drug/alcohol education.
“Our next event will be held during Drug Action Week in June,” she said.
