Visiting Manildra golfer Mark Williams received the accoldaes after his outstanding round saw him record +3 to be declared the winner of the Ken Keith sponsored 18 hole Par competition at the Parkes Golf Club last Saturday.

Despite returning the day’s best score Williams couldn’t accept the sponsor’s trophy as the club rules state that visiting golfers cannot win donated trophies.
However despite this ruling Williams didn’t go home empty handed as he was the recipient of a club shirt.
Leading home the local brigade was Phil Bishop who returned a solid +2.
He edged out Paul Jewell on a countback with Wellington golfer Elton Keefe next also on +2.
Ball winners from Saturday’s round went to +2 Paul Jewell and Elton Keefe, +1 Glen Buesnell and Garry Phillips, SQR, Wayne Parker, Michael Smith, Lachlan Buesnell, Allan Jewell, Troy Thomson and surviving the countback was a lucky John Green.
Nearest the Pin victors from the round saw Garry Phillips at 372cms on the Idlerite Tyrepower 1st hole;
Steve Simpson dominated on the Griffins Leading Edge 4th hole when his tee shot finished just 256cms from the pin;
A superb 8 iron to 910cms by Blake Parker enabled him to collect on the Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th hole;
Wellington golfer Elton Keefe received two balls compliments of Harvey Norman on the 11th hole after his tee shot finished 235cms from the pin;
While on the difficult Westlime sponsored 15th Hole Troy Thomson ruled with a shot that finished closest at 354cms.
On the final hole of each of the nines, Mark Kelly at 246cms collected two balls courtesy of Parkes Ready Mixed Concrete; while on the Parkes Heavy Mechanical Repairs 18th hole, Dave Harwood played a delightful wedge for his second shot which finished 840cms from the hole.
CHAMPIONSHIPS LOOMING
The annual Terry Bros Furniture and Floorcoverings Club Championships commence this weekend with the first of the scheduled four rounds set down for Saturday (April 26).
All members are advised that the titles will be played over consecutive weekends and players nominations sheets are located on the club noticeboard.
The Club Championships should provide an interesting and close battle and defending titleholder Blake Parker will attempt to win back to back titles.
A full preview will be published in Friday’s edition and it also recognises a 30 year sponsorship.
PYBAR & HANDISKINS QUALIFYING
Players are advised that the first qualifying rounds of the Pybar Handicap Challenge and the all new Handiskins competitions will be played at the club on Saturday, May 10.
The Handicap Challenge sees the leading 19 players from six qualifyings rounds play off later in the year.
The Handiskins event is new to local members and again it will see the leading four players whose best three rounds of five qualifying rounds play off in a final round with every chance to win some of the $1200 prizemoney vouchers.
This event is open to both men and ladies.
JACK BURCH 4 BALL HANDICAP MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Members are urged to nominate for the Jack Burch 4 Ball Handicap Matchplay Championship as nominations will close on Saturday at 6pm.
Players are also requested to check the Conditions of Play for General competitions which are displayed on the Members Noticeboard in the Members Room.
The event is open to the first 32 pairings who nominate.
CHARITY CAR BASH VISIT
The annual Cruisin’ Along Car Bash will visit the Parkes Golf Club on Friday, May 9, from 6.30pm.
The Cruisin’ Along Car Bash raises funds for Western Care Lodge which is an accommodation facility for cancer patients and their carers at the Orange Base Hospital.
This year’s Bash is defined as an “In our backyard thank you tour”.
More than 40 cars and their crews will be at the club and members and the general public are urged to come on out and enjoy a delightful meal as well as a great night of raffles and auctions - or just for a drink, sit and chat.
Several well-known Orange identities including Mayor John Davis, Pybar Managing Director Paul Rouse, Murray Horstman and his sons will make the trip.
With Terry Davis as the tour organiser a well planned trip is assured.
The Bash will be visiting Wellington, Armatree, Gilgandra, Mudgee, Oberon, Canowindra, Grenfell and Forbes during its nine day fundraising tour.
FRIDAY NIGHT
There will be no meals this Friday due to Anzac Day.
The club will resume its Friday meals on Friday, May 2, with chef Julie Morrison and her staff serving delightful and sumptuous meals at reasonable prices.
Members and their guests are welcomed and encouraged to come on out to the club on a Friday evening and sample the wonderful meals available.
Meals can be ordered between 6.30pm and 8.30pm
THIS WEEKEND
This weekend members will contest rounds 1 and 2 of the Club Championships.
All players are reminded that to be eligible to contest the clubs Matchplay Championships, they must contest all four rounds.
The leading eight players from the three grades will contest the Club Matchplay titles.
Starters for Saturday’s first round are Rick Glover and Garry Phillips, and on Sunday, Tom Medcalf and Gideon Van Zyl will share the duties.
