The two act play, directed by Lyn Townsend, starts its eight performance season at The Little Theatre in Bogan Street on Saturday, May 17.
Rehearsals commenced in February and with less than a month to go until opening night, the stage has been transformed to resemble a fully functional hair salon.
The play centres around salon owner Truvy (Christie Green) as she dispenses shampoo and advice to her clients.
They include Ouiser Boudreaux (Christa Radley), the town curmudgeon, Miss Clairee (Katrina Harris), an eccentric millionaire with a sweet tooth and quick wit, and M’Lynn (Shevaun Brown), whose daughter Shelby (Sophie Harris) is about to get married.
Annelle (Amy Dearden) the new salon assistant quickly learns there is no such thing as natural beauty as she ponders whether she really is married or not.
Tough as steel and fragile as the blossoms of magnolia trees, they gossip, tease, laugh, fight, cajole and comfort each other as they go through life’s big joys and challenges.
Steel Magnolias premiers at The Little Theatre on Saturday, May 17, at 8pm.
Other performance dates are as follows:
* Sunday, May18 (2pm).
