Acting Crime Manager Steve Howard (Parkes LAC) described as `excellent’ the work of local officers assigned to the case.
“Two neighbouring properties in Station Street were broken into overnight on Monday.
“A substantial amount of items including three motor bikes were stolen. One of the bikes was valued at several thousand dollars,” Detective Sergeant Howard said.
“However, through the great work of our general duty police, the items were recovered quickly after the identity of the offender and his whereabouts were established, and an arrest made.
“The officers involved in the investigations deserve the highest praise for their efforts,” Det Sgt Howard said.
Police were called to investigate a break-in at a garage of a home in Station Street just after 8am on Tuesday.
The owner discovered the rear door had been forced open and several items missing.
Stolen was a welder, fishing and camping gear, alcohol and several eskies.
Further investigations by police revealed that a garage of an adjoining property had also been broken into.
Once again the rear door had been forced open and three motorcycles and a number of items including helmets and camping gear stolen.
Following investigations by police, a search warrant was executed on Wednesday afternoon at an address in Want Street where a large quantity of property including the three motor-bikes were discovered.
It resulted in the arrest of the 32 year old Parkes man.
He was charged with two counts of break, enter and stealing, one count of goods in custody and one count of breach of bail.
The man was refused bail pending his court appearance yesterday. He was given conditional bail to appear in Parkes Court on May 5.
Police also advised yesterday that during the search of the Want Street address, a coin collection was found.
“We are seeking to identify the owner of these coins,” Det Sgt Howard said.
“Anyone who has had a collection stolen should contact police and provide a description of the missing coins.”
