The club’s Grade 5 team won the Zone 4 Pennant Flag.
They scored a comprehensive win over Dubbo City to clinch the title.
The overall shots margin was 70-53 for a 5-1 win.
Results of individual matches were:
Dave Buggie, John Carr, Peter McPhee and Keith MacRae scored 16 shots in winning seven of the last nine ends to record a good 23-11 win.
After leading 14-10, Greig Ball, Mark Dwyer, Col Mudie and Arthur Corbett lost the last eight ends to go down 25-14.
Matt Parker, Greg Fisher, John O’Malley and Warren Bevan led all the way in their 33-17 win.
In a great performance, the Warren Bevan led side went through the competition undefeated.
All the players, the manager and supporters are to be congratulated on this outstanding effort.
They now go to Tamworth in early August to compete in the State Finals.
OTHER PENNANTS
In other Pennants action, Grade 1 played Narromine at Narromine and won 66-57 overall shots for a 4-2 win.
Results of the individual matches were:
Paul Henry, Geoff Freeman, John Davies and Graham Fleidner had a convincing 26-14 win.
Dave Johnson, John Corcoran, Robert Corbett and Brett Frame lost the last two ends to go down narrowly 22-21.
Graham Barby, Tony Bright, Tom Casey and Col Hayward also lost narrowly 21-19.
Grade 1 finished third in Zone 4 with three wins and three losses.
Grade 6 played Railway Diggers at Parkes Bowling & Sports Club and lost 72-38 overall shots for a 5-1 loss.
Results of individual matches were:
Norm Keane, Gordon Dickson, Ron Hornery and Terry Hetherington lost 25-10.
Noel Nicholson, Max Tomkins, Craig Henry and John Ward lost 30-9.
John Dunn, Wally Austin, Mike Valentine and Kevin Hynds won 19-17.
Grade 6 still have a number of matches to complete the qualifying rounds but cannot catch the leading teams.
Grade 7 played Railway Diggers at Parkes Bowling & Sports Club and were narrowly beaten 57-53 overall shots for a 4.5 -1.5 loss.
Results of individual matches were:
Ron Murray, Bernie Mitchell, Wally Grant and Bruce Orr had a 16-all draw.
Don Littlewood, Tony Byrne, Rob Irving and Greg Townsend lost 24-19.
Bill Skinner, Steve Mills, George Boatswain and Ted Wright won 18-17.
This loss cost the Grade 7 team the chance to proceed to the Zone playoffs.
CLUB
CHAMPIONSHIPS
Three matches were played during the week.
In Minor Singles, Wilbur Harris played Steve Turner.
This was a very close match which saw the scores tied on six occasions.
Wilbur scored a four shot end to lead 28-26.
Steve then won the next three ends to take the match 31-28.
The other Minor Singles match saw Greig Ball up against Steve Ryan.
This started out a close match and saw Greig hold a narrow two shot lead 10-8.
Steve then dominated the remainder of the match, only losing four ends on his way to a 31-16 victory.
Major Pairs action saw Arthur Corbett and Col Hayward up against Garry and Michael Went.
Arthur and Col led 14-5 after 13 ends.
Garry and Michael then won four of the next five ends to only trail by four shots with three ends to play.
Arthur and Col won the next two ends to claim the match 21-12.
SOCIAL
Tuesday, April 8, saw 15 bowlers play in the Twilight Jackpot Bowls. Four games of Pairs were played.
Kevin Hynds, playing skip for both sides, teamed with John Watson to defeat Bob Freeman and himself 17-10.
Mick Horan and Mark Dwyer were narrowly defeated 16-13 by Ron Murray and Rhona Went.
Garry and Graham Phillips dominated their match against Geoff Leonard and Mike Phillips, winning 29-8.
Les Kent and Gary McPhee scored two shots on the last end to draw 14-all with Tom Furey and Steve Mills.
Voucher winners were Gary McPhee, Mick Horan, Garry Phillips, Steve Mills and John Watson.
The jackpot was not won and increased to $390.
New bowlers are welcome with players needing to have their names in by 5:30pm for a 6pm start.
Thursday afternoon’s social bowls was washed out.
Saturday saw 63 bowlers hit the greens in great conditions.
48 played in the Public Invitation event, eight played social pairs and seven participated in Club Championships.
The Public Invitation day saw 16 Triples teams play two games of 10 ends.
The club was very pleased to see 16 new bowlers participating and will be holding other similar events in the future.
Winning team was Tom Furey, Gordon Dickson and Mick Horan.
Runners-up prize winners were Graham Barby, Guy Ellery and Les Kent; John Corcoran, Bob Freeman and Flo Riseborough; Bruce Orr, Ray Jones and Laurie Keane.
The Resting Toucher prize winner was Steve Mills.
In the social pairs, Tony Byrne and Keith MacRae survived a late fight back by Ron Fisher and George Boatswain to record a 21-17 win.
In the other game, Noel Nicholson and Geoff Freeman established a handy lead and then held on to defeat Ron Hornery and Brett Frame 22-18.
SUNDAY JACKPOT
Nine bowlers graced the greens and played one game of Triples and one Pairs.
In the Triples game, Keith Hutchison led for both teams and combined with Bill Wyatt and Kevin Hynds to defeat Chris Dunn and Guy Ellery 13-9.
The Pairs game saw Mick Blunt and Garry Phillips score a good 24-6 win over Brian Harrison and Mike Phillips.
Voucher winners were Keith Hutchison, Guy Ellery and Mick Blunt.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000.
Go along on Sunday mornings for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot.
Names in by 9:30am for a 10am start.
