The pool party is being held this Saturday, April 12, from 4pm to 8.30pm at the Parkes pool.
CDAT President, Melanie Suitor, is encouraging local teens to grab their mates, grab their cosies, bring a beanbag and go along for a great night out.
“There will be music by DJ Jabba, a free BBQ and soft drinks, the pool inflatable, beer goggles, games, prizes and much more.
“After the sun goes down, for the first time ever at Parkes Pool, we will be screening a movie - Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs 2. So don't forget your bean bag!! We'll provide the pop corn,” Ms Suitor said.
Also being featured is the launch of the new youth magazine The Sound, which will be covering the pool party movie night and taking photos for the next edition of the magazine.
Buses will also be running from the villages to allow young people from Peak Hill, Trundle, Tullamore and Bogan Gate to attend. Contact Council's Community Engagement Officer Jodi Howard on 6861 2333 for more information or to book your place.
The event is for under 18s and is strictly drug/alcohol free. Normal pool admission applies.
Ms Suitor says the pool party movie evening is the first in a series of Youth Activity Nights that will be held in Parkes over the next 12 months.
“The aim of our Youth Activity Nights is to provide a safe drug/alcohol free alternative for local youth, supply a free hot meal and present drug/alcohol education. Our next event will be held during Drug Action Week in June,” Ms Suitor said.
CDATs are a group of people working together to take action on drug related concerns in their community.
The Forbes/Parkes CDAT is comprised of members from Forbes Shire Council, Parkes Shire Council, NSW Police, NSW Health, OCTEC Youth Connections, TAFE, Forbes High School, Red Bend Catholic College, Parkes High School, Parkes Christian School, Lyndon House and Parkes Neighbourhood Centre.
“Thanks to both Northparkes and Parkes Shire Council for their sponsorship of this event,” Ms Suitor said.
“So grab your mates, your cosies and a bean bag and head to the Parkes pool on Saturday afternoon.”
