Perfect weather conditions greeted the teams, many of whom had travelled from Brisbane, the Lockyer Valley, Moree, Bega, Cessnock, Dubbo, Forbes, Gosford, Port Stephens, Upper Hunter, Wagga Wagga, The Warrumbungles, Wyong, and many local government areas in the Sydney region.
From 9am last Saturday, the primarily local government teams battled it out on 10 playing fields at Cheney and McGlynn Park.
With the assistance of some light rain the Wednesday before, the grounds were in prime condition.
Parkes Shire Council’s Events Development Officer Chia Barlow was very pleased with how the event went.
“The Carnival is a really fun sporting event,” Chia said.
“It offers the opportunity for Local Governments to network and many friendships are made during the occasion.
“All up, the day featured eight hours of fantastic and sometimes intense touch football action with only a few minor injuries.
“They were readily seen to by the very committed St John’s First Aid volunteers.”
“The Parkes Sports Council and Parkes Touch Football Association did a fantastic job in the smooth running of the carnival and should be commended.
“We are looking forward to hosting the 23rd carnival next year,” she said.
