They include three for the show’s major stars Shevaun Brown, Neil Westcott and Gail Smith.
Shevaun who played Maria and Neil (Captain Von Trapp) have been nominated for Best Performance by a Lead Actress/Actor in a Musical while Gail Smith who played the role of Mother Abbess has been nominated in the category Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role.
The fourth nomination is for the show’s Director Lyn Townsend and Cheryl Chamberlain in the category Best Costume Design for a Musical.
The nominations were announced in Canberra on Monday evening with the awards gala to be held at the Llewellyn Hall next February 22.
Parkes M and D Society have established an outstanding reputation over the years for the excellence of its productions and garnered many CAT Awards in numerous categories.
This year’s nominations are the icing on the cake of another very successful year for the society.
Shevaun Brown is one of three `Maria’s’ nominated in the category of Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical.
She is up against Hayley Fragnito (Spectrum Theatre Group, Merimbula) and Jennifer Robinson (Albury Wodonga Theatre Company).
Other nominees include Anita Davenport (Annie Get Your Gun, Queanbeyan Players), Georgia Kollaras (Hairspray, MoonGlow Productions, Wollongong), Leah Ellis (Hairspray, Bidgee Theatre Productions, Wagga Wagga) and Olivia Fisher (Phantom of the Opera, Orange Theatre Company).
Neil Westcott – nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical is up against Andrew Dengate (Avenue Q, SoPopera!, Wollongong), Leslie Andrews (Aladdin, Mudgee Performing Arts Society), Ron Seymour (Hairspray, MoonGlow Productions, Wollongong) and Scott Halls (as Raoul, The Phantom of the Opera, Orange Theatre Company).
There are six nominations in the category Best Actress In A Featured Role In A Musical.
Gail Smith as Mother Abbess is one of them.
Other nominations include Anne-Marie Fanning (Avenue Q, SoPopera!, Wollongong), Christine Forbes (Footloose, Supa Productions, Canberra), Christine Wallace (Carlotta, The Phantom of the Opera, Free-Rain Theatre Company, Canberra), Mia Agius (Hairspray, MoonGlow productions, Wollongong) and Rachael Cox (Hairspray, Bidgee Theatre Productions, Wagga Wagga).
Director of Parkes’ production of The Sound of Music, Lyn Townsend is a regular nominee and this year she and Cheryl Chamberlain have been rewarded for their hard work by being nominated in Best Costume category.
Lyn extended congratulations not only to her fellow nominees but to the entire Sound of Music cast.
