The Parkes Rugby Union Club requested Parkes Shire Council's assistance in purchasing a new set of goal posts at Northparkes Oval under Council's Community Infrastructure Projects policy.
The Sports Council staff are required to erect and dismantle the posts many times during the winter season as Northparkes Oval accommodates AFL, rugby union and up to 10 school athletics carnivals.
The existing steel goal posts at Northparkes Oval were originally sourced through local suppliers and were difficult to handle due to their weight.
The Pila Group was chosen to supply a set of new 12 metre fibreglass posts for a total cost of $7,459.
The new posts are lighter and easier to handle than the existing steel poles because of their unique hinged base design.
The tapered posts are much more aesthetically pleasing and better suited for senior rugby matches.
Parkes Rugby Club will reimburse Parkes Shire Council for the cost of the new posts, less GST.
Under the Community Infrastructure Projects policy, the burden of the goods and services tax is carried and claimed by Council.
The installation was managed by the Parkes Sports Council, with Rugby President Rory Nock as the project manager.
The old steel goal posts will be relocated to Spicer Oval where they will remain in place for the duration of the winter season.
