SES volunteers from Lachlan Region - Parkes, Forbes, Peak Hill and West Wyalong SES units - provided assistance to the State Mine Fire in Lithgow.
NSW SES volunteers provided logistical support for the RFS, taking resources to fire fighters on the front line and staging areas, manning road blocks, door knocking effected communities, assisted with evacuations and doing welfare checks on people such as the elderly for whom there were concerns about.
“Our volunteers had no hesitation in supporting our fire fighting colleagues during the emergency when called upon,” Lachlan Deputy Region Controller, Nichole Richardson said.
“I also want to thank the employers who contributed to the bushfire emergency operation by allowing their staff members who are SES volunteers to leave their workplaces and join the response,” she added.
“Without their employers’ understanding and support, our emergency services volunteers would not be able to fulfil their commitment to assist and protect the community in times of trouble.”
“Whenever there is a natural disaster or other emergency, our volunteers turn out, often in hazardous conditions.
“They do it for no reward but the thanks of those they help along the way. Their skill, courage and dedication are second to none,” Nichole said.
“During the deployment of our volunteers, SES units and volunteers across the region continued to provide support to their local communities by attending to storm tasks that occurred following the severe thunderstorms that rolled over our communities, road crash rescue incidents and community first response requests.”
