Last year Maree and Steve Mulligan visited Cowra to check out the vintage model caravans and cars and came away thinking it would be a good idea to get involved in joining other enthusiasts in special events.

As result they decided to look around, check out prices and chose to purchase a 1970 VG Regal sedan and a 14.6 feet 1965-66 Viscount Duralvan.
After hearing of this weekend’s Museum of the Long Weekend celebrations in Canberra, Maree and Steve made up their minds to get involved in an Australia-wide convoy that set off from various locations including Cairns and Western Australia on September 24, Tasmania, October 5 and Echuca (Victoria) on October 10.
Maree and Steve met up with fellow caravaners in Cowra on Tuesday and were scheduled to arrive on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin (“Grevillea Park”) yesterday for this weekend’s activities.
In Cowra they and fellow vintage ‘vaners’ were hosted to a barbecue and entertained by former Parkes resident Stephen Cheney.
Locals also took the time to check out the caravans and vintage vehicles.
“We are testing the waters so to speak to see how our vehicles travel and of course see if we enjoy it all which I have no doubt we will,” Maree said.
“If everything goes OK we hope to also visit Broken Hill for the Vintage Caravans Nationals (VCNs) next April-May.”
It’s pretty certain they’ll be there as Maree and Steve have already booked and are entry number 85.
Meanwhile, this weekends Museum of the Long Weekend in Canberra is being promoted as part of the capital’s centenary celebrations.
Recreation, holidays, relaxation of our older residents who have worked hard in helping build the Australia we enjoy today is being celebrated as part of the special promotion.
