The couple, who left home in Bendick Murrell on January 29, were travelling back from Coonabarabran.
They stopped on the side of the road on the outskirts of town to set up camp at around 3.30pm Saturday afternoon.
Shortly before 4pm, while cooking dinner, a pan half filled with oil caught alight.
As the couple attempted to move the pan outside, the burning oil spilt on the floor and the caravan was quickly engulfed and destroyed.
The fire spread to a number of trees and started a small grass fire.
Parkes Fire Brigade extinguished the blaze and police attended.
The couple escaped uninjured.
The caravan was insured.
