Emily has been accepted into Meriden Girls Private School in Sydney for 2013 and will be part of the school’s Olympus Program.
The program is designed for elite sports girls to help them manage their schooling and the demands of their training.
In October, Emily represented NSW at the Australian Primary Schools Teams Championships in Perth where they were victorious going through the entire tournament undefeated.
Emily has represented Central West at the NSW Teams event for the past three years.
She will again represent NSW Country for the annual Country versus City Challenge in the 12 and under team to be held at Sydney Olympic Park this Friday.
Emily is currently ranked nine in NSW for her age and 38 in Australia.
She has not played as many ranking tournaments as her higher ranked opponents due to travel distances limiting her opportunities.
Emily is excited about her move to Meridan.
“I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life at Meriden,” Emily said.
“I have always dreamt of moving to Sydney to train and play tennis with, and against, other high ranked players.
”I believe this will improve my game, tournament results and also my ranking.”
“I was presented with the Dux of the School and the Sportsperson of the Year at Parkes Public school Awards night and really want to continue to achieve in both areas next year,” she said.
Meriden boasts a tennis coaching staff of eight, including fitness and footwork coaches.
There are three tennis courts on the school grounds at present with plans in place for a multi court indoor facility as well as a clay court to enhance their players’ development.
The school is also in close proximity to Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre that is also used when required.
The Head of Teaching and Learning, the Head of Senior School and the Director of Sport meet regularly with the girls to monitor academic progress and to assist them with time management and assignments.
“The school and the Olympus Program will allow me to follow my dreams of achieving the highest results, both academically and in tennis,” Emily added.
“My goals over the next few years are to be selected in the Meriden Girls Open Tennis Team and also win a National tournament.
”I believe that the opportunities living in Sydney presents, along with training hard will help me achieve my goals,” she said.
Meriden Girls Open Tennis Team set a new record by winning the girls division of the Australian Schools Tennis Challenge for the third consecutive time last year.
Meriden’s victory in this tournament means the school will represent Australia at the World Schools Challenge that will be held in Australia in April 2013.
Emily is thankful for the start to tennis she has received in Parkes.
“I would like to thank my Parkes coach Helen Magill for the fantastic start she has given me with my tennis and coaching me since I was four years old.
”I really appreciate everything she has done for me,” she said.
“I would also like to thank Parkes Public School for their support over the last seven years.”
