Boy is a kelpie-cross who is not afraid to put in a hard day’s work on the farm in the Kelvin district, in northern NSW.

Rounding up sheep and cattle in the heat of the day is a breeze.

But at the end of it all, there’s only one place you’ll find him: splashing around in the cattle trough. 

Ever since he was a pup, Boy has had an affinity with water – whether it be the farm dam, garden sprinkler, heavy rain or the watering trough.

His other addiction is retrieving sticks and balls – matter of fact, just about anything that will fit in his mouth.

He will have cause to cool down over the next few days, with the mercury expected to hit 38 degrees Celsius on the weekend before storms and showers move in next Tuesday. 

 Boy was in full swing on the Hayne family property near Gunnedah yesterday afternoon.
