The Parkes Spacemen remain at the top of the Group 11 Rugby League ladder after their 42-12 trouncing of the Nyngan Tigers at Pioneer Oval yesterday.
It was a great day all round for the Spacemen with Reserve grade winning a thrilling game 26-22 and the juniors inflicting a crushing 52-0 win over a hapless Tigers outfit.
A good size crowd braved showery conditions to cheer on the Spacemen’s three grade win.
The gate was over $2,000.
Inflicting only the second defeat of the season on the Tigers outfit, the Spacemen, who remain undefeated confirmed they are a real threat for this year’s Group 11 title.
The first grade encounter was a spiteful affair with the half time penalty count 10-3 in Parkes’ favour.
The Tigers surprised Parkes by scoring a converted try to lead 6-0 after nine minutes.
Parkes were their own worst enemy with repeated mistakes keeping them confined to their own half for the first 20 minutes.
Parkes knuckled down to their task with Epi Neoko scoring for Parkes to trail 6-4, Danny Reed missed the conversion.
Converted tries to Haemani Lavaka and Danny Reed had Parkes in front at half time 16-8.
An injury to forward Dale Rodgers, was the only real dampner on a gritty first half performance by the Spacemen.
Parkes were again up to their old tricks early in the second half with mistakes keeping Nyngan in the game.
Parkes were pinned well inside their own territory during the early stages before the class of the Spacemen started to shine through.
In flexing their muscles Parkes ran in five tries courtesy of Danny Reed, Marika Koroivui, Brandon Page, Keaton Harris and Justin Stevenson, to eventually annihilate the third placed Tigers.
Player’s player was Marika Koroivui who put in an outstanding performance.
In winning, Parkes also retained the Jim Fawkner Cup which is contested every home game.
