Interest in horse racing in Parkes continues to grow if the last meeting is anything to go by.
The meeting at the Parkes Racecourse featured eight races and offered $86,000 in prizemoney.
Gatetakings were also up by $250 as were the bar takings by $1,800.
The Parkes Jockey Club - which is led by possibly the youngest president of a race club in the state, Ben Smith - holds five meetings each year.
Four have already been conducted, with the final meeting part of the big June long weekend program.
Ben (23 when elected to the position, and now 24) said the 2011 racing program looks even bigger with the annual Cup meeting expected to rival the long weekend meeting.
Winner of the 2010 Parkes Cup was Miss Alberta who produced a strong finish in the straight to win for owners Mark and Lyn Beter and trainer Peter Nestor.
Jockey Brad Clark had Miss Alberta, the race favourite, at the tail of the field but took him to the lead in the straight for a two lengths victory.
Miss Alberta has the impressive record of seven wins and three placings from 14 starts.
