A Grade

Round 12

McClearys 26, Trotmans 24; Swindles 31, Coles 19; Parkers 25, Rogan’s 25; Poon’s 26, Kross 24.

James McCleary’s team have edged into second place chasing the second grand final spot, Poon’s lead can’t be hauled in they have a 33 point advantage, so interest now lies as to who’ll be their opponents. Kross still in with a big chance, to oust McClearys as they are just two points a drift of McClearys. Plenty resting plenty resting on tomorrow night and nest Tuesdays matches.

Justin Healy put in a super effort for his team, Parkers last week – earning eleven of the teams 25 points on the night. On his first match he pushed up a line for absent team mate Sam Pearce and played Tim Cheney this turned into a five game marathon, with Tim escaping with a close win in the deciding game 15/8. Justin still had some energy in measure as in his usual five line game he played David Nightingale and won 3/1.

Luke Swindle won so frustrated with his miss’ hits and duffed shot’s during his match against Brenton Nightingale’ there were shades of John McEnroe “isms”. Thought out the match Luke was seen checking out his racquet condition, which could well show signs of his frustration. Brenton won in three – 15/8, 15/10, 15/9.

Tony Ross’ unbeaten run came to an end last week, beaten by Ron Clarke- 3/2. This was the first time this comp Tony has been stretched into a five game match – Ron with the better finish winning the last two games, 15/12, 15/10.

Andrew Trotman also surrendered is unbeaten tag losing the deciding fifth game 17/15 to James McCleary. 142 points were contested; James starting off with a 17/15 win, then ‘Trotty’ won the second 15/9. James won the third 15/12, nearly pealed victory in the fourth but lost 14/15, then came back to win the decider by two points.

B Grade

Labuschagne’s 22, Pope’s 18; Jones’s 23, Owens’s 17; Hannelly’s 30, Burke’s 10; Ivey’s 27, Tolhurst 13.

There were some great 5 setters played last week, with the Coultas brothers starring in a couple of these. Ben Coultas took on Ryan Carnie and did well to push him to five games. Ryan is unbeaten on the 2 line, but Ben came back from 0-2 to force a decider, 15/13, 15/11, 13/15, 11/15 and Ryan cruising to a win in the decider, 15/5.

Kyle Coultas played Monika Parry in another marathon 5 setter. Monika started between this round, as in week 5 Kyle won 3/1. This time Monika played well to take Kyle to 5, but couldn’t crack it for a win in the 5th, 8/15, 15/9, 5/15, 15/8, 8/15.

Rob Johnson and Laura Miller had their usual tough battle. Laura was up 2/0, but Rob never says die and came back to force a 5th se. This was neck and neck, Laura handling the pressure better after a long game, 15/9, 15/11, 15/17, 6/15, 17/14.

Must mention the captain’s match between John Ivey and Nicole Tolhurst. Nicole came from ½ down to secure the 4th game, only just, 15/14. The decider was close with john keeping a cool head to stay ahead in points and came away with the win, 15/11.

Nathan Prince proved invaluable to his team. He won his own match, 3/1, defeating Lisa Bicket, and then subbing up to take on Jeff Page. Nathan was to quick on his feet for Jeff, coming away with another 3/1 win, securing 14 points for his team.
