15 Feb, 2010 08:40 AM
Results from last week:

A grade – round 2

Swindles 27 – Williams 23; Ross 27 – Kross 23; Nightingales 31 – Poons 19; Trotmans 29 – Coles 21.

Two rounds played and just two teams have won both their opening rounds, Nightingales and Swindles.

Nightingales have jumped out to a big lead on 65 points, nine clear of Swindles on 56, Trotmans, with one loss and one win, just a point behind on 55.

Trotmans play Swindles tomorrow night, which looks to be the match of round three.

Andrew Trotman has had two 3/0 wins, round one over Eddie Poon then last week against Phil Cole.

Mat has also picked up two wins in the first two rounds, but both have been hard fought 3/2 victories over Tony Ross and Luke Williams.

It should be even contests on all lines, particularly line two.

Scott Cusack to take on Craig Macaulay – both players unbeaten.

Scott won 3/0 last week against Darren Fisher, Craig also won in three when he played sub Toby Tanks.

Expect a 3/2 result.

A rare result last week, only two matches went to five games.

Kristen Bowd won the first game 15/14 against Renee Lawrence, then quickly lost the second 3/15.

Recovered to win the third – 15/12, but couldn’t add the extra game to claim victory.

Renee winning the fourth and fifth 15/10, 15/9.

Tim Cheney was a bit the same, won the first, lost the second, won the third, but couldn’t clinch another to seal a win.

Toby Tanks picking up his second 3/2 win.

B GRADE

Pearces 24 def Tolhurst’s 16; Popes 21 def Miller’s 19; Prices 26 def Labuschagnes 14; Iveys 20 def Ewings 20.

Some great five setters were played out last week, but none were better than the nail-biter between Kylie Blackstock and Ben Coultas.

Kylie sent out to an early 2-1 lead, 11-15, 15-9, 15-13, but Ben fought his way back to take the fourth, 15-13 and force the fifth set decider.

This was neck and neck with Ben crossing the line first, Kylie only two points away.

Total points were a great reflection of just how close this match was, 67 each.

Laura Miller was on fire against Jamie Pope.

Jamie started well, 15-11 in the first but Laura dominated after that, taking the next three games 15-6, 15-8, 15-4.

Nathan Prince showed that line two is the spot for him, coming up against Rob Johnson in a marathon five setter.

Nathan had to fight back from 0-2, 12-15, 12-15 but won on a roll after taking the third and fourth 15-13, 15-13 he kept on rolling in the fifth to finish the match 15-7.

Rob’s partner Jackie Price also battled out a tough five setter, so sore muscles would have been the order of the day for both of them.

Jackie played Monique Labuschagne and came back from 2-1 down to claim the match in what would have been a great, tough match, 6-15, 17-14, 12-15, 15-12, 15-10.

Jo Burke and Mark Turnbull also had a great five set tussle.

Jo started great, winning the first two games but couldn’t contain Mark in the following three, 10-15, 14-17, 15-8, 15-9, 15-12.
