History beckons for Queensland tonight when they have the chance to wrap up their fourth straight State of Origin series.
Will they do it? Of course they will.
Don’t get me wrong, I am a Blues supporter through and through but I am also 100 per cent sure that the Cane Toads will win tonight.
Perhaps me publishing this will be the kiss of death for Queensland but I highly doubt it.
I remember writing a while ago that the Australian team should be picked purely on form - which is something I still believe - however, it’s totally different come State of Origin time.
State of Origin is a brand of football that is totally different from any other game and you need people who are Origin footballers.
The big example that stands out to me is the Queensland side of the mid 90s.
It was a team full of blokes who were good but nowhere near as talented as the NSW guys. However they had passion and were prepared to die for their team.
It’s no surprise they upset NSW more than once during that period.
These days Queensland have got it all. Not only are their players better but they also thrive in the atmosphere of Origin.
In my opinion, if NSW win it will be one of the biggest upsets in the history of the game.
NSW haven’t won a series in the past three years, have a line-up that has been disrupted by injuries and in Josh Morris, are using their 10th debutante for the series... and it’s only Game 2!
On the subject of Morris, I really feel a bit sorry for him.
Here’s a kid who achieves a dream of playing Origin and everybody is just complaining and saying he shouldn’t have been picked.
Well, here’s hoping he scores a hat trick and NSW win by 20! Mmmm... and then I’ll win Lotto.
