Disruptions to teams

A grade – round 8

Francis 26 def Kross 24; Parkers 29 def Kellys 21; Poons 28 def Nashs 22; Swindles 25 def Rosewarns 25.

Holidays, injuries, work commitments and illness all contributed to a large number of sub ins, sub ups and shared points in last week’s round 8.

Only two teams, Parkers and Nashs were able to field a full team.

Two teams were reduced to just two players in their line up.

Thank-you to the players who subbed in, and played double matches to help out.

Matt did come good 3/1 and went through the second round undefeated.

Jeff Westcott also made amends for his close loss back in week one when Phil Cole beat him 3/2 (15/11 in the decider) by blitzing Phil 3/0 last week.

Phil did not even come close to getting a game.

Worth noting, in the first round Cherelle Kelly’s team beat John Parker’s team, 29-21 then came the start of the second round, Parkers win 29/21.

In that first round Cherelle beat John 3/2, so in keeping with the ‘reverse’ results, John beat Cherelle last week 3/2!

Three of the captains matches played last week all went into fifth game decisions.

Daniel Nash got a good start up 2/0 against Eddie Poon, but couldn’t get the extra game to clinch a win, Eddie winning the next three.

Mat Swindle and Anthony Rosewarn didn’t meet in round one, but a close contest was anticipated last week when they played.

Anthony rather fond of five game matches.

Games going turn about, until Mat, after evening games at two all with a 15/6 win in the fourth, came through to win the fifth 15/10.

Best wishes to Neil Macaulay who’s been laid low in hospital with a troublesome gall bladder we did expect he would have arranged ‘gate leave’ to play his match but obviously couldn’t talk authorities to agree.

B grade

Labuschagnes 23 def Nightingales 17; Suttons 23 def Bowds 17; Brewers 26 def Ivesy 14; Cheneys 24 def Joyces 16.

Tim Cheney had to wait a while to get his revenge on the only player that has beaten him this comp.

Nick Joyce beat him 3/1 in the first week of this comp but Tim didn’t let that happen again, winning convincingly this time 3/0, 15-11, 15-5, 15-6.

Rebecca Jones also had a better result this time against Wayne Pearce.

Rebecca really had to work for it though, needing a nail-biting five setter to claim victory 15-6, 16-17, 17-16, 12-15, 15-10.

In the last round Rebecca was the loser in four.

Laura Miller’s been playing well and Monika Parry was at the receiving end last week.

In the first round Monika had an easy 3/0 win, but this time she played an improved Laura and it was Laura who was the victor this time, in five tough sets.

Monika was ahead 2/1, 15-5, 13-15, 15-7.

Energy levels waned when she needed them though and Laura took the last two games 15-5 in each.

The bottom line saw a few result reversals from the first round.

Lisa Bicket took her revenge on Tony Tanswell 3/1.

Tony was the victor 3/1 in the first round and Lisa was happy to reverse this, 15-10, 15-5, 13-15, 15-9.

Rob Johnson’s been getting plenty of Saturday practice and this showed in his results against Stacey Nash last week.

In round one, Stacey won 3/1 but Rob was very convincing in his 3/0 win this time around 15-10, 15-8, 15-5.
