Week 3 games were played on a very balmy night. I am not sure what happened to spring but summer is here , now. The 6:30 games had to contend with as bit of “sunblurr” during the second half as the hot sun settled slowly behind the pine trees on Railway parade. From the umpires view it is rather surreal to see all the players silhouetted against the sunset.
Unfortunately some teams did not attend their full umpire duties. Railway Bowling Club (C Grade) failed to provide any umpires for the 6:30pm game so now need to pay Leanne Wright $20 and have lost 6 game points. CWA (B Grade) only had one umpire arrive for their duty so now need to pay Cathy Ryan $10 and have lost 3 competition points.
At the general meeting on Monday night teams represented were Mid West Home Loans, Glow Electric, Parkes Cellars, Diamonds, Choc Attack and Lotus imports. All these teams have gained one bonus competition point.
Round 3 Matches.
Choc Attack (C Grade) only had 4 players turn up so they had a “social Game” with Glow Electric. This wa disappointing for the team because even with 4 players they won the match on goals 29 to 22, however Glow Electric took the match on points. Player of the match was Rachel Ross. In the other C Grade game the young Shooting Stars played really hard this week but just could not keep it up to their older opponents. Railway Bowling won the game on goals 27 to 18 which would give them the three points, however because they failed to attend for umpire duties they have lost six points which leaves them with a balance of -3 points. Player of the match was Georgie Ward.
In the B Grade division the match of the round was the hot Pink Lotus Imports team against the deep pink BAKM team. For Lotus, Natasha Butt owned the mid court playing a very strong game at Goal Attack and Kath Went was devastating in Goal Defence. Ashlyn Kelly fought all game to produce some pretty spectacular goal shots in Goal Attack for BAKM and was well supported by Carmel Ritchie who ran her legs off in Centre Court. At the final whistle Lotus took the match 32 to 20. Player of the match went to Kath Went.
Launch Ladies took on CWA in the later timed game. It was 4 all at the first break. CWA hit hard during the second period with the scores at 6-10 at the half time whistle. This lapse stirred the Launch Fitness girls who scored strongly after the long break with the scores 13-15 at the third break. Erin Cocker who had been devastating around the court for CWA crashed during the last quarter leaving the CWA team with only 5 players on court. Both teams could only pull off 2 goals in the shortened quarter with CWA taking the match by a mere 2 goals. Player of the match went to Renea Herft. Thanks you to the Gosper ladies for umpiring this game.
In the A Grade Mid West Home Loans team could only field 6 players with others involved in the M&D production of Beauty and the Beast. Parkes Cellars turned up with 8 players. At the first whistle the scores stood Cellars 7 MWHL 8 at half time Cellars were 18 and MWHL 17. The reduced number of players showed for MWHL after the third period with the score Cellars 30 MWHL 25. Sarah tenCate urged her young players to fight hard and even though they outscored the Cellars team 11 goals to 9 for the quarter it was not enough to win. Parkes Cellars took the match 39 to 36. Player of the match was Sarah tenCate. The Pinks could team only 4 players so ended up playing a social game with the Diamonds. In both cases team members melded well so a game could be played. Thank you for your sportsmanship to all involved. Diamonds took the game 28 to 19 and player of the match was Rai Warren.
