Town Bowling Club Notes

By Johnny Perella

The final of the District Fours was played on Saturday, and the all Parkes Town final lived up to expectations turning out to be a great game of bowls.

Champions for 2010 are Jim Buckley, Eddie McPhee and Mark Dwyer after a very hard fought 25-18 win over Colin Mudie, Arthur Corbett and John Corcoran.

Despite leading for most of the way Buckley’s side had to work hard against very spirited opposition. Jim played inspiring bowls and led from the front; with both Eddie and Mark contributing well they were going strong at the finish to claim their first district title and a shot at a Zone 4 title at a later date.

Around the club

A $2200 member’s badge draw could be yours; all you have to do is come along on Friday night and join the happy crowd.

There are plenty of prizes to be won in our club draws and there is also our Chinese all you can eat restaurant to make it a great night out.

Thursday Bowls

Social mufti produced 26 starters for one triples match and five games of pairs, and the afternoon produced some interesting results.

Undoubtedly the best game was a thrilling come from behind 20-19 win to John Ward and Mick Craft against Phil Collins and John Dunn.

Also in a close game John Carr and Wally Austin defeated Noel Nicholson and John Lutton 20-16.

A four point winning margin was the result for Terry Hetherington and Colin Hornery against Keith MacRae and Tony Byrne 22-18.

Pulling away at the finish were Ray Jones and Mike Valentine in their 27-16 win over Peter Fisher and Greg Davies.

Far too good were Tom Hamilton and Greg Ball winning 24-10 against John Hodge and Bernie Coleman?

In a heavy weight triples clash, Graham Barby, Ron Hornery and John Keogh picked up the money with a 24-10 victory against Rob Tinker, Stan Wright and John Corcoran.

Business House Bowls

The popular business house triples competition resumed last week and both nights produced good fields.

On Wednesday there were 10 matches filling both greens, looks like this will be a tough comp and will produce some great match ups.

Stand out game was a sensational 15 all draw between Trundle X- Services and Pot Luck; only one shot separated Signs- U- See (2) and Hutcheon & Pearce, Signs winning 14-13.

Getting their campaign of to a great start was The Gate (2) with a 15-12 win over ROK FM.

Thursday night had a smaller field but the standard of play was just a high and there were a couple of very close results.

Chalkies open their account just holding off the fast Finishing Lasses 12-11, and Inswingers showed good early form with a tough 13-9 win over Uniting Church.

Saturday Bowls

The hot weather played havoc with the field and only eight brave souls turned out for social mufti.

Of the two games of pairs the best was a seven shot 20-13 victory to Rob Tinker and Theo Holman over Peter Fisher and Wilber Harris.

Ron Hornery and Merv Hennock were just about unstoppable in their match against Bob Collins and John Keogh running out convincing 25-13 winners.

Travelling Bowlers

The travelling bowlers are on the move again, there will be a meeting at the Parkes Bowling and Sports club on Tuesday 2nd February at 7-30pm.

Business on hand will be to elect a new committee and start planning this year’s trip away.

Anyone interested in going on the tour is welcome to come along and play an active part in the running and organization of a fine trip away.

Sunday Morning bowls

Only a small field again, but the two matches played were both keenly contested affairs

Julie Hamilton and Brenda Davies came from behind to defeat Kate Keogh and Ellie Hetherington 16-14.

Ron Dunn and Tom Cole had a hard fought 10-5 win over Keith Hutchison and Mick Holland.

Coming Events

This weekend the second event on the District calendar the open fours will be played at the Parkes Railway club.

Our club will be well represented and will no doubt give a good account of them selves.

Nominations for the club Minor and major fours championship are out and will close on Tuesday 9th February.
