NorthParkes Mines Classic Triples
Defending champions Dave Button, Peter Grayson and Glen Kearney have successfully defended their classic triples crown winning the keenly contested event run over the weekend.
Dave’s side beat 27 other triples combinations from all over for the top prize money, and were the only undefeated side with 5 wins + 99.
Second place went to a local side Keith MacRae, Peter MacQueen and Ted Wright 41/2 w +46, while another Forbes side Bruce Williams, Russell Dietrich and Scott Andrews finished third 4w+ 46.
Local sides rounded out the final places, Robert Corbett, Ray Jones and Noel Nicholson fourth on 4w+37 and Matt Frame, Rick Frame and Paul Henry 4w+26 were fifth.
The event went off well with all teams enjoying the fine hospitality and great meals put on by the ladies.
Around the club.
Members badge draw has moved along to $1000, the renovations to the club house are due to start this week, a new eatery is planned and some work on the ditches around the greens due to start plenty of action around the club.
Thursday Bowls.
Six games of pairs and only one produced a close result, this was a 19-14 win for Phil Collins and Greg Davies over Ron Hornery and Greig Ball.
Dave Sheehan and Bill Watt won convincingly 23-10 against John Lutton and Ron Murray, also convincing winners was Pat Cooney and Chris Dunn 32-12 over Terry Hetherington and Tom Cole.
Jim Buckley and John Keogh were in great form with a commanding 33-17 win over John Corcoran and Merv Hennock.
Showing no mercy were John Hodge and Don Littlewood in a 26-13 triumph over Wally Austin and Alan Tolhurst.
John Carr and Len Kendall combined beautifully to soundly defeat Ray Jones and Ian Mill 36-14.
This week’s mufti social will be left in the capable hands of Greg Fisher and Ron Hornery.
Mixed Fours Championship.
First round matches were played mid week in the Mixed Fours championship, with all games being fiercely contested.
Most impressive win was a 38-12 victory for last year’s champs Baldy Frame, Cherie Frame, Robert Corbett and Pam MacRae over John Corcoran, Gwenda Carty, Tony Byrne and Liz Byrne; they look to be the side to beat again.
Also showing great first up form was Ray Jones, Audrey Jones, Tom Hamilton and Julie Hamilton when they defeated Col Hayward, Ellie Hetherington, John Carr and Fay Tolhurst 21-19.
It took a super shot on the last bowl of the match to separate both teams, down a shot Graham Barby moved the jack to give his side of Mavis Gray, John Davies and Margaret Hawken a narrow 22-21 win over Keith MacRae, Brenda Davies, Mick Craft and Kath Hutchison.
Business House Bowls.
Wednesday was a fine evening and great for bowls with results showing competition to be as fierce as ever?
Stand out matches were Maree’s Costumes winning 15-11 over Ditch Bitches, and Big W defeating Pot Luck 2 13-8.
Impressive winners were Bushies with a 19-8 win over Southern Cross.
Thursday produced some thrillers as well, with the closest being a one shot win to Nissan over Uniting Church 16-15.
Inswingers narrowly overcame a determined Land Care 19-17, and Back Trundle Road had a fine 12-9 win over Wreck em and Fix-em.
Coming Events.
* The final of the major fours will be played this weekend and promises to be a beauty.
Jim Buckley’s boys will be trying to make it back to back titles when they come up against Graham Barby’s side.
