A day to remember for our Tiffany

A day to remember for our Tiffany

03 Nov, 2009 01:38 PM
When she is a grandmother, Tiffany Jeffries probably won’t remember the winner of the 2009 Melbourne Cup.

The Parkes based apprentice jockey however will most likely remember Sunday, November 1, 2009, as the day she rode a career first winning treble - and at her home track!

Jeffries has ridden numerous winners over the past year but surprisingly hadn’t recorded a win at Parkes before Sunday’s big meeting.

Her first two winners Fuhrsuvia and Military Waltz are trained by her mother, Sharon Jeffries to whom Tiffany is apprenticed while the third leg of the treble, Difuyung is trained at Dubbo by Tom Mulholland.

In the Parkes Heavy Mechanical Repairs Benchmark 50 Handicap (1200 metres) Fuhrsuvia (3.40) led all the way for a one length win over Estarose (Josh Adams, 2.30 favourite) and Belly Be Good (James Geppert, 12.00).

Fuhrsuvia, described by Tiffany Jeffries as her favourite horse, is owned by Phil Easman from Parkes and his parents Bill and Shirl Easman from Gilgandra.

Military Waltz (3.60, 3.00 fav) also led all the way when beating Nordic Edge (Bryan Murphy, 26.00, 13.00) and Igora Royal (David Pisani, 8.00) in the John Woods Painters Benchmark 50 Handicap (1200 metres).

Owners of Military Waltz are Roger and Nerida Atkinson who also have their outstanding galloper Sniper’s Bullet racing over the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

Difuyung (8.00) was taken to the front soon after the start of the Parkes Leagues Club Benchmark 55 Handicap (1000 metres) and won by over a length from Ease Louise (Bryan Murphy, 4.60) and Noble Crown (Robyn Freeman, 17.00).

Kevin and Shirley Wales who for many years conducted a mail run from Parkes to Tottenham won the Telescope Tyres and Batteries Maiden Handicap (1300 metres) with Suitably Connected.

A former Victorian performer, Suitably Connected was having its first start for the Wales’ and Dubbo trainer Garry Lunn.

Despite racing greenly in the straight, Suitably Connected (3.00, 2.80 fav) was too good for Spontini (Joe Galea, 26.00, 21.00) and Positioning (Dar Lunn 10.00).

The other winners at Parkes were Sacred Words (Daniel Edmonds 3.00, 2.70 fav), Dash ‘O’ Hennessy (Lucy Brown, 8.00) Onwards ‘N’ Upwards (Josh Adams 6.00) and Bel Spur (Michael Travers, 10.00).
