Despite coming away from the game with a 3-1 loss, Parkes Tigers took it to the top-five side, holding Lithgow Panthers to nil-all at half time.
Tigers looked more confident in the first half and were able to make some great attacking runs down both sides of the field.
“We held the ball well and got to the fifty-fifty’s first,” captain Janelle Thompson said.
At half-time the talk centred on keeping things moving in the second half.
The Tigers have struggled with keeping up the momentum after the break this year.
The Parkes side went into the second half determined and opened the scoring 15 minutes in when a hard hit from outside the 25 found Thompson’s stick for a deflection into the goal.
Lithgow Panther’s were able to strike back within minutes when a deflection from Parkes keeper Annie Hay was picked up by the Panthers attack and put into the net.
Both teams come out firing form the restart with both sides making attacking raids on the opposition circle.
Panthers were able to break the deadlock with 10 minutes
remaining and despite some
desperate attempts from the Tigers put their third goal in just minutes before the end of the match.
Tigers fullback Codie
Wakefield put in a solid game, breaking down several attacking raids to pick up Players Player, while Hay was again outstanding in goals.
In attack Thompson along with Jess Ross and Sarah Melhuish were able to find some space and put pressure on the Panthers’ defence, while Michelle Somers and Cassie Magill completed a marathon worth of running in the midfield.
Parkes Tigers will have a break over the long weekend
before a double header the
following weekend against St Pats in Bathurst and Bathurst City at home.
