Amazing race double at Harold Park

Amazing race double at Harold Park

06 Nov, 2009 08:59 AM
Parkes greyhound owners, Garry Abernethy and Mick O’Shannessy are enjoying an amazing run with their ‘Gazmick’ dogs.

They had a rare double at Wentworth Park on Monday night, when both Gazmick Bronte and Gazmick Jax recorded impressive victories.

Gazmick Bronte is racing in top form, winning two in a row at ‘headquarters,’ Wentworth Park.

On Saturday night it won in 30.52 by two and a half lengths and backed up again on Monday night with 30.44 to win by 3.75 lengths.

Bronte also won the 5th grade final at Gosford last week, in 30.31 sec.

It was double joy for the local breeders and owners on Monday when Gazmick Jax won the 4 th grade over 520 metres.

A very good field contested the event and Gazmick Jax led all the way to victory.

Jax run a very hot second section of 13.88 to the back, which set up the victory, running a very smart 30.19 - only 1/100th outside of the best of the night.

The local owners have now won considerable prizemoney in recent months.

Michael O’Shannessy said it has been the result of a real family effort.

‘What makes this so special is that we owned the mother Lady Gazmick from three months old and raced her,” Michael said.

She won two at Wentworth Park herself when Ross Burton trained her in Sydney.

‘We breed with her now.

‘Our wives, Laura and Linda, deliver the puppies and help out during the busy puppy phase so it’s a real team effort.

‘We reared them ourselves and raced them early in their careers and then sent them to Ross Burton to train. He has done a terrific job with the Gazmick dogs.’

The Champion Post featured another of the dogs, Gazmick Storm previously.

It ran second in the Group 2 Black Top to Cindeen Shelby who is a multiple group winner.
