Golfers keep playing in wet weather

Despite the protestations of failed mahatma Nude Nut, 7 members braved Sunday’s threatening weather and, of course, raindrops did not fall on any heads until the last green.

By way of change the field played the back 9 off the red markers because of the Parkes Open.

While James Sellings had trouble getting out of the furniture department, Nathan Murphy found the going to his liking finishing with a nett 30 to take home the Video Ezy trophy.

Runner-up was Alex Evans on 32 and brother Luke took the putting award with 16.

In the 2009 Parkes Golf Club Championships juniors came up trumps with Justin Sutton predictably winning the junior title on 324.

Thomas Ward kept his cool throughout the 4 rounds to emerge B grade champion in both the scratch and handicap sections with 344 and 286 respectively.

Coming from the clouds in the final round Kyle Bell claimed the C grade handicap and Schoolboy’s divisions on 284. Members were full of praise for ability and etiquette displayed by the youngsters.

As of last Wednesday 11 clubs are being represented at the Ron Dunford’s Pharmacy sponsored Parkes Junior Classic with no fewer than 14 players eligible to contest the David Coulston Memorial Trophy.

Numbers are expected to swell with the Wellington, Bathurst, Warren, Cowra and Condobolin clubs still to nominate.

The biggest division by far is the cadets boasting a field of 22 to date. The starter’s roster is now on display in the clubhouse and the starter’s room and the first group will tee off at 9am. Good luck to all participants.
