Parkes Leagues Club Social Golf Notes
By Tough As Teak
A four-ball best ball was played on the 1st of November and we had a good round up swelled by Barrie and Kay Brook, friends of the Hogans.
Barrie was very keen I wrote his name correctly.
He spelled it out several times and then confused me a little more by saying it was his Christian name.
Finally I got it right. On with the results.
As it was a 4BBB, the players were in pairs. Barrie must be a good player as he combined with Dawn Phipps to win with 48pts.
Ian Phipps was very pleased with his game as he had 75 off the stick.
Our beloved president, Reg Davison scoffed at him and said he could get that on one hole!
Someone had better explain the game to Reg.
Close behind were Reg and Chris Goodie with 47pts on a count back to Brian Hogan and Peter Picker.
With that result I think Reg must be telling porkies.
Nearest the pins for the ladies was Margaret Hogan on the 1st, very pleased with herself as she had the same result the day before.
Lyn Davison took out the 4th and 11th.
I must tell you about the fabulous hats these ladies wore at the end of year party for the women, the theme was flowers.
Lyn being a florist, they had made it from a wreath base with a huge flower on the top!
I give them full marks for ingenuity.
For the gents, Barrie Brook won the 1st, Barney Hutchings, the 4th and Ian Phipps, the 11th. Bob Ramsay and Vic Gaidzionis were the lucky draw winners and Kay Brook with Don Burridge scoring the bunny.
Rob Rea provided the trophies and raffle for the day.
Rob had made one of his great cheese cakes for the raffle and Sue Smith won it.
I did suggest I could come around for a coffee that afternoon but there was no answer.
The other half in the family, Ross probably scoffed it all!
Golf balls were won by Lee Ramsay, Barney Hutchings, Brian Hogan and Peter Picker.
Pete also won the match play against Skeeta Archer, 6/5.
I had to ask Skeeta what his real first name was! Nicknames can stick.
By the way it was Leonard.
Yesterday, the 1st round of the Championships would have been played and the 2nd round is planned for this Sunday.
Telescope Tyres are donating the trophies so a big thank you would be finished before it gets too hot.
We are a little concerned that our accident prone player, Al Affleck (see last weeks notes) didn’t turn up. Where are you , Al?
A question I have read recently asks, should you talk to your ball?
You have given it quite clear instruction but there must be many stupid or deaf balls out there and if you don’t believe it take a look over fences, under trees or in water hazards.
They can also completely disappear, even down the middle of the fairway. Ask Ian Phipps.
Lastly, a big thanks to Marg Rea for the sausages in gravy. She had some left over so gave them to a group of players. They were very pleased as they didn’t have to go and buy something down the street. A generous person I sour Marg.
