Allen masters long course

08 Feb, 2012 07:22 AM
Another large field contested the Telescope Tyres and Batteries February monthly medals for trophies donated by Ivan Duchnaj and I and SB Homes last Saturday in difficult conditions at the Parkes Golf Course.

After the recent rain the conditions certainly played havoc amongst the large field with only three players managing to break par off handicap.

In the premier grade, Charlie Allen fired a great 68 nett to snare the major handicap trophy.

The A grade best scratch score went to John Green with a 75 off the stick.

In the minor grades, Col Barker took home the B grade scratch award with a solid 87 while Ian Hendry, with a 72 nett, grabbed the monthly medal.

Wayne Tucker won C grade when he also returned a 72 nett, with Michael Della Ca returning a 93 in winning the scratch award.

Other awards went to Charlie Allen who also took home the Griffins Leading Edge Putting competition with just 25 putts, while Ron Boness, with his 71 nett, managed to grab the Veterans Award.

The days nearest the pins were shared around, Denis Howard was victorious on the 1st at 464cms, and the 6th when he finished a close 127cms from the pin.

Col Hutchings had an easy birdie flag by taking out the 4th at 281cms.

On the back nine holes, Ken Ryan birdied the 11th from 253cms while on the difficult 15th, Mick Carroll fired his 3 wood to 607cms from the flag.

Wayne Powter fired a great second shot to the 9th and claimed the two balls courtesy of the sponsor when he finished 255cms from the pin and the 18th, also in two shots, saw Andrew Brownlow victorious at 38cms.

Ball winners: 69 Andrew Brownlow; 70 Mark Job; 71 Col Hutchings, Ron Boness; 72 Michael Mitchelsen, Ken Ryan; 73 John Green, John Leister, Andrew Pigram, Col Barker, Gideon Van Zyl, Mick Della Ca, Warren Blatch, Ian Phipps.
