Forbes man Robbie Stonham will act as an ambassador for the Men of League Foundation, a charity assisting former rugby league players, when he soon appears on Channel Nine’s ‘The Footy Show’.
Mr Stonham suffers from the debilitating Motor Neurone Disease, where the nerve cells which control muscles fail to function normally leading to muscle weakness.
This leads to sufferers to have difficulty with everyday tasks such as walking and speech, however intellect and memory remain unaffected.
Mr Stonham will speak on his experience with the disease, the support he has received from the Men of League Foundation and the Motor Neurone Disease Society.
He will be interviewed via live cross by Footy Show regular Mario Fenech.
“I am going there to promote the Men of League and promote the Motor Neurone Society in Sydney,” Mr Stonham said.
Mr Stonham said the Men of League Organisation had greatly assisted him.
“They gave me $1000 to take my kids on holidays and they brought me tablets from the United States which cost about $800 and they brought me new scooter. It cost them nearly $7000,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter whether you play NRL in Sydney or out here in the bush…They certainly looked after me,” he said.
Mr Stonham said he also intends on slipping in a thank you to the home care ladies, “to thank them for everything they’ve done for me”.
The Footy Show airs every Thursday at 9.30pm on Channel Nine. Mr Stonham will appear on the show on Thursday, September 11.
