Parkes players into Central West side

03 Mar, 2010 08:45 AM

Five Parkes players have been selected in the Central West Junior Rugby selection trials held last Sunday in Orange.

Iszac Oliver, Aaron Boney and Thomas Haskell were once again selected for the Central West Bulls, this time in Under 15s.

Matthew Clarke and Karl Oliver were selected for the Under 16s Bulls side.

These players have been part of training squads during summer and their hard work has obviously paid off.

The boys played three games during the trials and the selectors and coaches commented on the high standard of play and the way the games were played in great spirit.

The players will be off to Wellington for training days and to Cowra, Coonabarrabran, Newcastle, Armidale and Sydney for trial games, Country Championships and State Championships.

Parkes’ Fini Latu is the CW Under 16s coach and their trainer is Kevin Oliver, so Parkes is well-represented in Central West!

Parkes players in Under 12s, 13s and 14s will travel to Dubbo next weekend for selection in CW teams. Anyone who is interested in trying out should contact John Haskell ( 6866 2163) as players first need to be registered with the Parkes club.

This Thursday sees a registration afternoon for all sub-junior and junior Boars. This will start at 4.30pm and training will begin at 5.30pm. A sausage sizzle will be held after training to welcome all players.

Further registrations will be taken at the junior cricket presentation on the 27th March.

Sub-junior rugby is played in Under 7s, 9s and 11s with modified rules and on a smaller field.

Junior rugby has Under 13s, 15s and 17s teams, played on a full field under international rugby rules.

Junior rugby is played in great spirit and encourages parental involvement at all levels.

A Smartrugby course will be held at Northparkes Oval on Thursday 11th March from 6.00 to 9.00pm for anyone who is involved in Sub-junior andJunior Rugby, such as coaches, managers, parents running the line, running the water, setting up the field and for canteen workers.

The course will outline rules and regulations and standards of behavior for players and adults as well as “coaching for kids”. It is a “must” for all parents.

Anyone interested should contact John Haskell on the above telephone number.
