Parkes U/16s score

excellent win at

West Wyalong

In a day of mixed fortunes at West Wyalong on Sunday, the Parkes U/16 representative cricket team emerged victorious to record a splendid victory over a highly competitive West Wyalong team in a round four Lachlan Junior Cricket Council match for the 2009/10 season.

Earlier in the day West Wyalong scored very convincing victories over the Parkes U/14 and U/12 teams.

Results of games were:

U/16s: Parkes 9/162 off 36.2 overs (Ben Coultas 45no, Aaron Wilkie 37, Myles Smith 28, Douglas Keith 14, Sam Noakes 12, Nathan Murphy 8, Ethan Macfarlane 3/19 off five overs) defeated West Wyalong 10/142 off 39.5 overs (Nathan Smith 34, Ethan Macfarlane 25, David Barron 26, Brent Tucker 6/17 off 7.5overs, Myles Smith 3/16 off 6 overs).

Parkes won by 20 runs.

Parkes went into this game without the services of four key players and indeed, with only 10 players.

After winning the toss Parkes elected to bat.

Openers Myles Smith and Aaron Wilkie soon moved into stride to post

37 runs before Myles was bowled for 28 runs (including six boundaries) in the sixth over.

Thereafter the Parkes middle order batting fell away to have the score at a precarious 7/98 after 20 overs.

This saw the entry of Ben Coultas to the batting crease. Ben came into the team as a replacement player but more than proved his worth by scoring a hugely valuable 45no (including seven boundaries). He along with Sam Noakes and Nathan Murphy boosted the Parkes total to 162 after the ninth player was dismissed causing the innings to cease.

West Wyalong received some wayward leg side bowling early in their innings that caused plenty of problems for live-wire Parkes wicketkeeper Sam Noakes.

With the West Wyalong score at 3/68 after 17 overs, the match seemed evenly balanced.

West Wyalong however produced a resolute fourth wicket stand of 64 rounds to take the score to 3/132 in the 35th over.

West Wyalong looked assured of victory.

Nonetheless the Parkes team was able to turn the match around by dismissing seven West Wyalong players for the addition of only 10 runs!

Outstanding left arm fast bowler Brent Tucker led the way by smashing through the West Wyalong batting line up to record the splendid figures of 6/17 off 7.5 overs excluding four maidens.

Myles Smith 3/16 off six overs also took key wickets.

Smart catches were snared by Alex Umbers (2), Brent Tucker, Dory Keith, Blake Smith and Ben Coultas.

A delighted Parkes coach Ken Keith and manager Gary Wilkie congratulated the Parkes team after the match with special congratulations going to Ben Coultas and Brent Tucker for their outstanding individual efforts, and to the whole 10 member team for a top effort.

The Parkes U/16s can now look forward to upcoming matches against Young and Cowra in the next few weeks.

U/14s West Wyalong 4/96 in 16.5 overs (Hunter Anderson 36, Matthew Sheather 22, Aiden Cattle 19 n.o., Zac Bayliss 2/25 off 4 overs, Toby Nash 1/13 off 3 overs, Vince Umbers 1/16 off 3.5 overs) defeated Parkes 10/95 in 43.1 overs (Vince Umbers 25, Zac Bayliss 23, Sam Tighe 14, Callan Taylor 3/3 off 7 overs, Murphy Payne 2/4 off 2.1 overs).

Batting first Parkes were confronted by the pace and skills of up and coming left arm bowler Callan Taylor who returned the splendid figures of 3/3 off 7 overs.

After losing three early wickets Sam Tighe and Vince Umbers showed plenty of determination to build the Parkes score.

Wickets continued to tumble and at 6/41 the Parkes team were in trouble.

The resolute Vince Umbers was joined by Zac Bayliss as they added 46 runs for the 7th wicket.

Eventually Parkes were dismissed for 95 runs after 43.1 overs.

West Wyalong soon demonstrated an aggressive response in their run chase.

Zac Bayliss however caused problems as he secured two wickets in his second over to complete a good all round match.

West Wyalong batsmen Hunter Anderson, Matt Sheather and Aiden Cattle soon took West Wyalong past the Parkes score but not before Brad Wales and Zac Bayliss took good outfield catches.

U/12s Parkes 11/70 in 22 overs (William Olsen 26, Sam Carty 11, Joe Wilson 7no, Rhys Lloyd 3/14 off 5 overs, Harvey Daniher 3/23 off 5 overs, Lachlan Buttenshaw 2/8 off 3 overs, Jock Cornell 1/7 off 3 overs, Michael Daniher 1/7 off 3 overs) lost to West Wyalong 2/71 off 22.1 overs (Lachlan Buttenshaw 39, Harvey Daniher 17no, Mathew King 1/13 off overs, Hayden Fletcher 1/9 off 3 overs, William Olson 0/9 off 5 overs, Sam Carty 0/5 off 3 overs).

Batting first on a well grassed Redmond Oval at Wyalong the Parkes team lost wickets at regular intervals mainly due to the fact that many players hit the ball in the air, resulting in smart catches being snared by the alert West Wyalong fielders.

William Olson promoted to no.3 in the butting order played some splendid hooks and pulls to send some erratic leg side bowling speeding to the boundary.

Indeed William collected five boundaries in his valuable innings of 26 runs. If Will can develop his off side game he will improve his batting.

Sam Carty and Joe Wilson displayed plenty of effort and concentration as they boosted the Parkes score to 70 before the last wicket fell, both teams batting 12 players.

In response West Wyalong were confronted by an excellent opening attack at Parkes bowlers Mat King and William Olson.

Mat King indeed was quite an inspiration to his team as he repeatedly caused batsmen plenty of problems as they endeavoured to counteract his pacy swing bowling.

Hayden Fletcher soon caused problems when he bowled West Wyalong’s Jock Cornell in his first over.

With the West Wyalong score at 2/11 in the 7th over Parkes were entitled to feel content with their efforts.

West Wyalong batsman Lachlan Buttenshaw and Harry Daniker however saw their team home to victory.

In doing so both players demonstrated a good lesson to the Parkes team in how to play a straight bat and wait for the loose ball before playing aggressive strokes.

Special thanks must go to the large contingent of Parkes parents and supporters who accompanied the Parkes teams to West Wyalong.

All three Parkes teams can now look forward to games against Young in Parkes next week.
