 Lennox totally dominant

Lennox totally dominant

22 Feb, 2012 08:21 AM
A superb round of 42 Stableford points by Michael Lennox proved that, despite the course playing long, excellent shot making can prove fruitful when members contested the fourth round of the 2012 summer competition last Saturday.

Lennox completely blew the field of 80 players away with his superb round in claiming the major trophy.

So dominant was Lennox that he had a cushion of four shots over runner-up Garry Bourke on a day that was very difficult for scoring.

It was interesting listening to members after their rounds with many claiming the magnificent fairways and tough greens are finally catching up with players as the course continues to improve in leaps and bounds.

After four completed rounds of the BWR Chartered Accountants and Advisors Summer competition, veteran Charlie Allen leads the field on 113 just one points clear of Mark Job and Michael Mitchelsen.

Troy Thomson and Lynette Van Zyl are next on 111 with Tony Hendry lurking ominously on 110.

With this Saturday being the final round, Mark Job and Troy Thomson’s chances of victory have disappeared as they will be away on the annual golf trip.

However, both Van Zyl and Hendry could upset the leaders.

An up to date scoreboard for the summer competition is on display in the clubhouse and it shows all players who have contested two rounds or more.

Ball winners from the round were: 38 Garry Bourke; 37 Tim Lasserre, Ryan Thornberry, Joey Van Opynen, Steve Edmonds, Troy Thomson, Michael Mitchelsen, Ron Klein; 36 Rod Luyt, Ron Boness, Chris Plummer, Tony Hendry.

The day’s nearest the pins were shared around with Robert Hey being victorious on the 1st hole at 266cms, Bruce Howard at 470cms on the 4th and Col Hutchings the 6th at 232cms.

On the back nine, Peter Magill birdied the 11th from just 37cms while on the difficult 15th, Ian Phipps fired his tee shot to a birdie distance of 306cms.

Justin Sutton fired a great second shot to the 9th hole and claimed the two balls courtesy of the sponsor when he finished 318cms from the pin and the 18th saw Wayne Parker victorious at a close 68cms.
