Last round of games will decide final positions

06 Jul, 2009 09:25 AM
Last round this week, semis next week, with both finals and grand finals the following week - 20 and 21 July.

All fees must be finalised in full this week please.

It is planned to hold the Club Championships during July and August - with the new competition to start in September.

A grade - Round 13

Kellys 29 def Kross 21; Nashs 28 def Parkers 22; Poons 26 def Rosewarns 24; Swindles 26 def Francis 24.

Round 14 tomorrow night and much hinges on the results.

Eddie Poons team has a six point lead over Mat Swindle’s team, 358-352.

Is the six points enough to keep Poons number one? Swindles are out to put the pressure on.

Four teams are bunched tightly together and are out to qualify for the remaining two places in the front draw.

Francis 325, Kross 324, Kellys 323, Rosewarns 322 - every chance that magic one point could be the difference between front and back draw spots.

Some interesting stats from last week. All five matches in the Parkers v Nashs matches were 3/0 results.

Luck with the Nashs team - they had three of the victories to Parkers two.

Only five matches last week went into fifth game deciders. Not surprising that Sam Terry was in the mix.

Mel Jones just got a win against Sam in the first round (week six) 17/16 in the decider.

Another long match, again in Mel’s favour but not quite as close, 15/7.

Captains Eddie Poon and Anthony Rosewarn also had a similar result in the rematch.

In Round 6, Eddie edged home 17/15 in the final game - again it was a long game to decide the winner and Eddie once again got the win 17/14.

Three of the five games went long.

A close match between Allan McCormack and Scott Cusack, with the winners fortunes resting on the last game.

Scott, after a good start, was up 2/0 before Allan pegged his lead back to win 15/8, 15/9 in games three and four.

Scott had a late revival and won the decider 15/13.

Kristen Nightingale looked set for a 3/0 win over Dave Brinkley after winning the first two games 15/11, 15/10.

However a 16/17 loss in the third game halted her run.

She couldn’t get her rhythm back and Dave breezed through the next two 15/6, 15/9.

Craig Miles and Jeff Westcott possibly had the best of the five game matches on the night.

Several of the rallies went well into double figures meaning there were two very tired players before Jeff claimed victory 15/13 in the last. He also claimed the overall points 63-62.

Andrew Davies ended Andrew Taggarts winning streak. Andrew had won his last seven matches but lost last week 1/3.

All players are reminded they are required to umpire a game each week - no exceptions.

B grade - Round 13

Nightingales 21 def Suttons 19; Cheneys 26 def Labuschagnes 14; Bowds 21 def Iveys 19; Brewers 21 def Joyces 19.

Cheneys now have a nice 18 point lead on the rest of the field and look certain of the number one spot going to the finals.

Joyces sit second on 282, then 10 points back are Bowds while Brewers sit fourth on 268.

Suttons look to be the top of the back draw on 260 with a big lead on the last three teams.

Labuschagnes are sixth with 238, then Nightingales on 232 and the wooden spooners by just three points at the moment are Iveys on 229.

That could change with a good result tonight.

Only one player managed to reverse their first round loss last week and that was John Ivey.

John played Kristen Bowd and lost the first round 0-3.

Last week’s match was a lot closer, going down to the wire, 15-14 in the fifth.

Kristen had an early 2-1 lead but couldn’t contain John in the final two games.

John held his nerve better at 14-14 to claim the win.

Kris Nock still maintains her unbeaten status, a great effort after 13 weeks of competition.

John Maddison played well to take a game off Kris last week, with two others going to 12.

Despite Kris being unbeaten, it is Jo Burke who is leading the gradings on that line with 7 compared to Kris on 6.88.

Tonight’s matches will decide who tops that line.

Rob Johnson is also still unbeaten at this stage of the comp and looks certain to receive a promotion next comp.
