With The Ace
Firstly this week well done to Luke Evans who was a member of the Central West 12 and Under boys team which finished 6th at the State teams event held in Bathurst last weekend. Luke was pleased with his singles and doubles results.
WESTERN PSSA TRIALS
Tomorrow will see seven Parkes girls and boys travelling to Bathurst for the PSSA Western trials. Emily Thomson, Gab Noakes, Yasmin Potts and Emma Evans all representing Parkes Public and Lachlan District along with Brenden Weekes and Matthew Job from Middleton and James Ward from Parkes East have all been training hard to peak tomorrow and I’m sure they will be fine ambassadors for Parkes tennis. Good Luck to you all.
PSSA KNOCKOUT
The first match for the fiercely competitive 2010 primary school knockout will be held this Thursday with Parkes East taking on Middleton. Both teams will be evenly matched with strong boys lineups and the girls will all be trying their best for their schools on the day.
JUNIOR COMP
Round 3 of junior comp last week saw some fairly predictable results through most divisions.
BLACK
Danny Warren is finding the extra practise on Thursday nights against the wall or whoever will hit with him is helping his game. He scored a big 8/1 win over Bryce Taylor last week.
Harrison Byrnes and Josh Drabsch always have close matches and Harrison won their battle last week 3/2.
BLUE
James Ward continues to set the bar higher in the Blue division. His groundstrokes are improving every week and when his serve is proficient he will certainly be a player of the future. Last week he out played Jack Kearney 8/1.
Mathieu Bouchard and Yasmin Potts had a super match with both players working hard. Mathieu just won 5/3.
Ben Evans is hitting his groundies with vigour so watch out Middleton this week. Ben scored a 6/2 win over Gab Noakes last week.
GREEN
William Goodsell must have played well to defeat Ryan Lydford 4/1 in their match while Daniel Unger was very happy with his 6/1 scoreline against James Ellery. Jed Rauchle had Charlie Goodsell running all over the court last week in their match in which Jed came away with a 5/3 win.
PURPLE
Hannah Symo was on the winners side again last week when she took on Berny Tait and scored a close 3/2 win.
Tarryn Mumberson is continuing on her winning way and last week was a little too strong for Jess Swindle with a 5/2 scoreline.
Caitlin Bell was on fire last week when she out-played Markarid Sarkissian 9/0.
RED
Russell Cabban and Emma Evans had a great match with both players determined to play well. They did indeed with Russ just getting home 5/3.
Cassie Bryant was seen making Travis Bell run all over their court last week and he did a super job to keep the ball in play at times. Cass won 5/2.
Lucy Wright received a forfeit when Amanda Berger failed to show for their match.
SILVER
Jye Dillon is improving each week which is what was predicted at the start of this term. He accounted for Felix Bouchard last week 7/0.
Aaron Wright is starting to think a little more on court and he out maneuvered Calum Weekes last week 6/3.
Patrick Lydon was back on the winners list with a well-deserved 4/3 win over Ryan Brewer. Once again I must mention Ryan’s beautiful sportsmanship. He can be heard commending his opponent on their good shots and encouraging them on their misfortunes. Good on you.
WHITE
Hannah Potts and Riley Baxter had a close match with Hannah scoring a 3/2 win on the whistle.
Lachlan Sense is gaining more confidence each week and is showing some nice style. He scored a 4/1 win over Phoebe Potts in round 3.
SINGLES AND DOUBLES
DIVISION
A couple of points to mention. Firstly I have had some complaints about boys mucking around. You are allowed into this division because you want to play extra tennis and learn about doubles as well as singles. Please be sensible.
Secondly a reminder that all 4pm or 4.30pm matches are to play your singles first on both courts followed by your doubles. This allows for the 5 or 5.30pm matches to play doubles first on the spare court followed by singles matches.
A disappointing scoreline in the first match last week saw Emily Thomson and Harry Williams play 3 sets against Carleton Magill and James Simpson and not concede a single game. This is the first time this has ever happened in the singles and doubles division. No doubt Carleton and James will be keen for a better performance tomorrow.
Ben Somers played well in his singles to defeat Amy Draper and give he and Toby Nash a 2 sets to 1 win over Badih Mansour and Amy.
James Beuzeville had to work hard to defeat Mat King in a tiebreak while partner Claudia Simpson performed better against Rachael Westcott and eventually secured a 3-0 win.
PARKES JUNIOR SQUAD
The junior squad is working beautifully each week and this Wednesday will be week 7 of their program. It is very rewarding to see these eight young girls and boys ranging in age from 7years to 13years putting in 100% effort towards their fitness training, drills sessions and points play. Emily Thomson travelled to Lithgow yesterday with Dubbo the next main JDS for the squad on March 28.
