The annual Parkes Christmas parade was moved to a Friday night last year – but was it a success?
The Parkes Business Chamber would like to know.
In past years, the street parade has been held on a Thursday night, several weeks before Christmas, but last year, was moved to a Friday.
The Chamber had mixed reaction to the change of day and would now like the community to comment.
Do people prefer the parade on Thursday or Friday?
Residents can text their thoughts to 0417 621 839, can send an email to the Chamber at parkesbusinesschamber@gmail.com or look up its Facebook page.
“We are keen to get plenty of feedback from residents because the Christmas parade is a major attraction of the town leading into Christmas,” Chamber publicity officer, Ian Westcott said.
“We would prefer it to be held at a time which suits the majority of people, including the business community.”

The Chamber is also keen for community input on a local sensitive issue, whether to push for a parking officer in the town.
“It has been raised with the Chamber that business owners and staff are taking up parking spaces in the main street when they could park in the many carparks which are located in the nearby back streets.
“It was even suggested that some business owners are parking in front of other businesses, not their own, and eliminating car parking spaces.
“The council is also continuing with beautification works in Clarinda Street and this has resulted in the disappearance of a few car parking spaces.
“You can’t stop people from parking where they want to, but there is now a thought that possibly a parking officer should be reinstated here in Parkes.
“What do local residents feel about that?
“It has caused plenty of comment in the past, but we would like to know what the feeling is now.”

Mr Westcott said the last meeting of the Chamber also received an update on Northparkes Mines from its External Relations Officer, Jeremy Hastings.
“Jeremy told us that the E48 project is progressing well and now providing 30 per cent of the ore at the mine.
“It is expected to be in full production by September.
“Work at the present time involves construction of concrete roads and blasting of the undercut.”
He pointed out that Northparkes would also be sponsoring a special networking and update evening for current Chamber members.
“It will be held on Friday, 21 May and will feature a guest speaker from Rio Tinto International who will speak for a short time and then be available for questions.”

Mr Westcott also reported that the main street PA system was continuing to make progress, with the design stage now complete and approval now being sought from Country Energy.
He also revealed that the Parkes Business Awards – staged every two years – would be held in October.

Local shire councillor Alan Ward attended the meeting to explain the latest goings-on at council.
He said one exciting announcement is that the runway re-development at
the Parkes Airport is now virtually finished.
It was also revealed that council – while carrying out other works - is laying conduit throughout the CBD area – making provision for future main street security measures, including cameras.
