The Central West Car Club Inc held its second charity drive-in movie night during the Elvis Festival with a screening of ‘Speedway’ starring Elvis Presley and Nancy Sinatra.
Organiser Aiden Ashcroft said that with 110 vehicles and approximately 380 people in attendance, the second event was another great success.
Leading up to the start of the screening, a local junior rock n roll dance group kicked up their heels and put on a great display.
There was also some great live music to entertain the masses from Joe Adana, playing a wide range of music from the Elvis era before and after the screening of the movie.
“$1000 was raised by the Central West Car Club Inc which was donated to Can Assist. The Rural Fire Service raised $700 from manning the Rotary barbecue trailer,” Aiden said.
“A big thanks goes out to White’s Electrical and Reece Plumbing for helping to rectify the damage caused by vandals to the vital utilities, so funds could be raised for charity.
“Thanks also to Parkes Shire Council for the use of the street sweeper to clean the parking areas, Coates Hire for the portable lighting for the grounds, Foodservice Central for the freezers for production of the Choc Tops, Pat Bailey and the crew from Can Assist collecting donations, Chris McQuie for accommodating a bus run to and from the site on the night as well as doing a return run for a patron who was left behind, to the Parkes residents who attended the event and to Roatary for the use of the barbecue trailer.
“A final big thank you again goes to Walt and Bev Coulston for the use of the drive-in site, for without this crucial location the night would not have happened so successfully.
“Hopefully if the location is not vandalized further come October, another drive-in night might take place to coincide with the annual charity Show n Shine.”
